Dear Friends,

Today as a Church universal and as a local community of faith we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, commonly referred to in its Latin title, Corpus Christi. Although we gather to celebrate the Euchar ist each Sunday and every day, we never want to take for granted the great depths of the mystery we celebrate – that we receive the body and blood, soul and divinity of our Lord at each Eucharist.

Our Eucharistic sacrifice gathers us together and is the “source and summit of the Christian life” (Catholic Catechism). Through the body and blood of Christ, we become one in communion; we share a common sacrifice, a common thanksgiving, a common meal, a common savior, and we encounter forgiveness, one salvation, and one gift of eternal love. For all that we receive we should never take this great gift for granted.

True devotion to our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is so evident in our parish by your faithful participation at mass, the frequent visitors we have in our Adoration Chapel, our beautiful Forty Hours devotion and our Corpus Christi procession this weekend. Please join us for our Eucharistic procession at the end of the 12 Noon Mass this weekend. “Our faith in God who took flesh in order to become our companion along the way needs to be everywhere proclaimed, especially in our streets and homes, as an expression of our grateful love and an inexhaustible source of blessings” (St. John Paul II, 2005). Join us as we process to Villa Saint Martha, St. Martha Manor and to the front of the Education Center.

Next weekend will be the last weekend for our dear friend and good priest, Father Matt Guckin. We as a parish family have been blessed to be the recipients of his priestly joy and service for nine years as our resident priest and twelve years as faculty of Bishop Shanahan High School. Father Guckin’s transfer takes effect on Monday, June 15th. We will have a good-

bye celebration next Saturday evening June 13th immediately following the 5:00 p.m. mass, which he will celebrate. Plan now to attend. With Father Guckin going we want to welcome Father John Donia who will arrive next week to begin his ministry among us at Saint Joseph Parish and Bishop Shanahan High School. Let us pray for Father Guckin and Father Donia in this time of transition for both of them.

I would also like to welcome our new seminarian who will be with us for the summer and then will return during the school year on Thursdays for his field education assignment. Welcome Matt Brody! Matt is an acolyte which is the year before he will be ordained a transitional deacon. Next week we will have a little bio of Matt and we hope everybody will get to know and welcome him.

Lastly on this weekend we also take time to congratulate all of our GRADUATES. As we honor their accomplishments, we pray that God will guide them as they move on to the next stage of their life be it first grade, freshman year of high school, college or beyond. May Christ, the Master teacher, always guide your actions and may you follow his way.

Saint Joseph, Pray for Us!

CORPUS CHRISTI

PROCESSION Parishioners of all ages are invited to participate in the Corpus Christi Procession this Sunday, June 7,

immediately following the 12 Noon Mass. The Eucharistic procession will begin at church, process around St. Martha’s, and end with Benediction in front of the school. This annual event provides a wonderful opportunity for us to publicly affirm our belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. We will also enjoy water ice after the procession and benediction.

Please note: Even if you attend another Mass on this weekend, please come back for the procession.

Children’s

Liturgy of the Word

Our Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place on Sundays during our 9 a.m. Mass. The last session will take place next

Sunday, June 14 and will resume in September.

Just prior to the First Reading, children in 1st through 3rd grade will be called forth to gather in the front of the altar. They will receive a blessing, then proceed with an adult leader to the chapel. There, they will hear approved versions of the readings for the Mass at a level they better understand and trained leaders will invite them to share their reflections on the Gospel. The children will be escorted back into church to join their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. For questions, contact Kathy Thomas at [email protected].

World Meeting of Families Prayer

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.

May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.

May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.Amen.Amen.Amen. Jesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!pray for us!pray for us!pray for us!

World Meeting of Families

Monthly Theme There will be a different theme each month leading up to the

World Meeting of Families (September 2015) based on the

10 chapters of the Preparatory Catechesis “Love is Our

Mission: The Family Fully Alive.”

June’s Theme is A Home for the Wounded Heart

Many people, especially today, face painful situations resulting from poverty, disability, illness and addictions, unemployment, and the loneliness of advanced age.

But divorce and same-sex attraction impact the life of the family in different but powerful ways. Christian families and networks of families should be sources of mercy, safety, friendship and support for those struggling with these issues.

Become a Volunteer! More than 10,000 volunteers are needed to help with the World Meeting of Families and the Papal Visit. Go to the website to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Host a Family! Thousands will visit for this international event from September 22-27. You can open your home and host a family or an individual. Open your home and host a family! It is easy to sign up online.

Thank you for your generosity and support!

Today’s Gospel gives St. Mark’s account of Jesus gathering his disciples for a last supper, revealing to them a new covenant established through his own sacrificial blood. Every time we participate in the Eucharist, we make a pledge to renew and deepen our participation in Christ’s covenant in practical ways. For the steward, that means making daily, personal sacrifices to strengthen this covenant relationship such as deepening our relationship with the Lord in prayer, supporting our parish, and giving comfort to the poor. Now is a good time to reflect on what we can do to strengthen our covenant with the Lord and

our community in practical ways.

Family Potluck

Dinner and Prayer

Your entire family is welcome to attend St. Joseph’s monthly Family Potluck Dinner & Prayer Evening on Saturday, July 11 following the 5 p.m. Mass!

Celebrate Mass Share a meal Pray a decade of the rosary

On your way into Mass, bring your dish and serving utensil into the cafeteria (using the right-most doors along the front of the school). What Can You Bring? Crock pot or covered dish to share, large salad, rolls and butter, or desserts! We will have prayer cards and extra rosaries.

For more information, contact Patty and Scott Millward at [email protected].

The Loaves and Fishes

Project With the Loaves and Fishes Project,

giving is as easy as 1-2-3: • Grab a can of soup, a box of pasta, or any non-

perishable item from your cupboard as you dash out the door to Mass.

• Drop off your donation in the “Loaves and Fishes” closet on your right as you come into church.

• Enter the church with the warm feeling of a nourished soul!

The Loaves and Fishes team will deliver the items to the Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown. Feel free to contribute to this “ongoing food drive” once a week, once a month, or once a year. As a church family, we can make a much appreciated contribution and a significant impact to a charity that helps over 700 families every week. Please contact Nancy Farrington at [email protected] or 610-620-3619 for more information.

Purchase your 2015 Sweepstakes Calendar!
