There are three para- bles following one after the other. Jesus laid bare to an astonished world what passes through the human heart of God, his patience and love toward those who have left him to seek happiness in sin. The parables of the strayed sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son are a wonderful revelation of the tenderness of Jesus. Those hard-hearted Jewish priests, the repre- sentatives of God on earth and the ministers of his cov- enant with men, wanted Jesus to show himself austere and forbidding toward those who have failed. Stung to the quick, our Lord was driven to disclose the incom- prehensible yearning of his great Heart even toward the most unworthy of us. He is forced, as it were, to reveal to the vulgar and the uncomprehending, to the conven- tional and the narrow-hearted what looks like weak- ness: his love and patience toward sinners. He does not excuse his actions, he does not even pause to justify them. simply lays bare the inner workings of his Heart –what the saints have had the hardihood to call the fol- ly of his love–for us, miserable failures in the way of holiness. (E. Leen, In the Likeness of Christ) Chapter XV in the Gospel according to St Luke is remarkable and repays study. It will be noticed that Jesus is not content with one parable, but figure is add- ed to figure, image to image, detail heaped on detail, in order to give as complete a picture as possible of the boundless mercy and patience of the God-Man. It would look as if all barriers of reserve were broken down, and Jesus allowed men to penetrate into the most mysterious recesses of his Heart. The words fol- low rapidly, one after another; the sentences are vivid and eloquent; each parable succeeds the preceding one without a break, almost with an appearance of breath- lessness. And in all is observed the same rapid move- ment, the same nervous phrasing, the same vivid color- ing. The story of the Lost Sheep is sufficient in it- self to bring consolation to the repentant sinners for all time, and to inspire the most obdurate with unbounded confidence in the Divine Mercy. But Jesus was not sat- isfied with it. He supplements this moving story by two others widely different, but equally moving and, perhaps, more consoling. Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest

Rev. Canon Olivier Meney Episcopal Delegate for the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite in the Diocese of Oakland

Canon Meney - (510) 604-0391 or [email protected]

YOU ARE AT SAINT MARGARET MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH HUB OF THE LATIN MASS LITURGY IN OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA

The Traditional Latin Mass (now called by the Holy Father: Mass in the Extraordinary Form) is brought to you through the ministry of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.

WHAT IS THE INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST?

The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest is a Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right whose goal is the honor of God and the sanctification of priests in the ser-vice of the Church and souls. Its specific aim is missionary: to spread the reign of our Lord Jesus Christ in all spheres of human life. Our work is carried out under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception, to Whom the Institute is consecrated.

Recognizing the importance of a deep harmony between faith, liturgy, life, and the power of beauty in attracting the human senses to the things above, an integral part of the Institute’s charism is the use of the traditional Latin Liturgy of 1962 for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the other sacraments. Great care for a solemn liturgy, complete fidelity to the doctrine of the Church and the Holy Father, and awareness of the central role of Grace, especially Charity – these are essential elements of the Institute’s spirituality, which is drawn from its three co-patrons, St. Benedict, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Francis de Sales.

Our motto is “Live the truth in charity." The Institute operates in more than fifty places in twelve countries, where our priests focus on the care of souls in many different ways. To assist our priests in their apostolic work, the Institute also has clerical oblates. In 2004, a community of religious sisters was canonically established to aid the priests in their mis-sion through prayer and apostolic work.

The Institute was founded in 1990 by Monsignor Gilles Wach. Today, the motherhouse and international seminary of the Institute is located in Gricigliano, in the Archdiocese of Florence, Italy.

The Institute serves the faithful of the Bay since 2005 at St. Margaret Mary in Oakland and at Five Wounds in San Jose (Mass at 12:30 pm on Sunday, 12:15 pm on Weekdays but Sat. at 7:30 am)

MESSAGE FROM FR. GLENN NAGUIT: On behalf of all of us, I’d like to congratulate the our young people who received the gift of the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation: Andrew Dombrowski, Izabella Gutierrez, Mark Hockel, William Kennedy, Ambrose Poon. Also on behalf of all of us, many thanks Bishop Barber for confirming in the Catholic Faith these our children, and for leading us in the Corpus Christi Procession again this year! * The past week has been busy for our Parish-ioners. A group of TORCH families gave a great send-off to the Nelson Family. Patrick, Linda and their children, Charles, Liadan, and Kavan are moving on to Michigan. Charles was baptized at the Parish and received his Fist Holy Communion here a couple of years ago, and Liadan received her First Holy Communion here only a few weeks ago. Charles also serves as one of our altar servers, some-times serving as the lone server at our monthly First Friday TORCH Masses. To the Nelson Family: We’ll miss you. Jesus and Rita Cristobal celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past week. They were surrounded by their children, family, friends, as well as many of our parishioners at the celebration. Marking milestones like this is very important, en-couraging other couples in their vocation as well as proclaiming the beauty and importance of the sacra-ment of matrimony. Jesus serenaded Rita with a sweet rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “All the Way.” Congratulations to Jesus and Rita. The Sister Adorers of the Heart of Jesus visited the Parish. A reception was held for them on Saturday, and Sister gave a talk in the Hall. Sisters welcome to the Parish. The 115th Annual Memorial Day Services were held at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward, hon-oring the men and woman in uniform who gave their life at the service of our country. Members from the various branches of the military were present, and our very own Lolita Morelli---our singer at the 8.30am Mass on Sundays--led some 500 people in singing “No Man Is An Island” and a stirring “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” She and her late husband, Tony Morelli, have been members of the Hayward Municipal Band who were all present at the event. Brigadier General John Lawlor of the 63rd Regional Support Command gave the keynote ad-dress saying that our nation continues to face many foes and adversaries, and that our military remains to committed to defend our country, its way of life, and everything we stand for, as this is what we owe to the

For Better or For Worse (From Three To Get Married by Fulton

Sheen)

The woman was Alexandrine d'Alopeus of St. Petersburg who, though not a member of the Church, was very fond of visiting the churches when she was in Rome. In the year 1832, she saw a young man, a French Diplomat by the name of Albert de la Ferron-nays, praying at the Communion rail. She said she felt such a strong urge to pray alongside of him that she actually would have done it if her sisters had not been with her. On coming out of the church, she was introduced to him. They made a visit to the four great Basilicas of Rome and when finally they finished the visit, Albert knelt before the main Altar and offered to Our Lord the sacrifice of his life if He would give to this beautiful young girl the gift of Faith. Later on, while courting, she wrote to Albert: "When I am near you and when I feel that you love me, my happiness would sadden me if there were no God Whom I could thank. Do you think that those who have no faith really love? Do they have deep emotions? Can they be truly devoted?" When Albert received the letter, he wrote in his Diary: "Oh, my God, enkindle again in my heart the fire of your most Divine Love. Purify this sentiment which is today my whole life, that I may respect her more than anything else in all the world, and that I may become worthy to love her." Then, answering her letter, he said to her: "No, I do not believe that anyone can love with inno-cence and with depth, I do not believe that anyone can love at all, without being penetrated by a deep sense of God and immortality." Married on April 17th, 1834, in Naples, they spent for the next ten years a life so beautifully ecstatic that she asked her husband if this love was not a foretaste of the manner in which they would be allowed to love God and one another eternally in Heaven. This confession of the triune quality of love soon began to pass through the phases of Divine Love when God came to this earth and took upon Himself a Cross. Her husband fell seriously ill with consumption, but still their love did not diminish amidst suffering, for every night they read together the Imitation of Christ. Their dear friend, de Monta-lembert, was then writing a life of St. Elizabeth. Hav-ing learned that the Saint and her husband used to call each other "brother" and "sister," they adopted the practice. She wrote in her Diary: "He called me 'sister' and I remember the angelic tenderness on his face when he said that word." But still Alexandrine did not have the gift of Faith, and Albert's greatest sorrow was that his wife could not kneel alongside of him at the Communion rail and receive the Savior's greatest gift of love.

The Sacred Heart and the Eucharist Devotion to the Sacred Heart should bring us to a life of intimate union with Jesus who, we know, is truly present and living in the Eucharist. The two de-votions—to the Sacred Heart and to the Eucharist—are closely connected. They call upon one another and, we may even say, the require each other. The Sacred Heart explains the mystery of the love of Jesus by which He becomes bread in order to nourish us with His substance, while in the Eucharist we have the real presence of this same Heart, living in our midst. It is wonderful to contemplate the Heart of Jesus as the symbol of His infinite love, but it is even more wonderful to find Him always near us in the Sacra-ment of the altar. The Sacred Heart which we honor is not a dead person’s heart which no longer palpi-tates, so that we have only the memory of him, but it is the Heart of a living Person, of One who lives eter-nally. He lives not only in heaven where His sacred humanity dwells in glory, but He lives also on earth wherever the Eucharist is reserved. In speaking of the Eucharist, Our Lord says to us, “Behold, I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world” (Mt. 28:20). In Holy Communion, then, this Heart beats within us, it touches our heart; through the love of this Heart, we are fed with His Flesh and with His Blood, so that we may abide in Him and He in us. “In the Eucharist,” said Benedict XV, “this divine Heart governs us and loves us by living and abiding in this Sacrament...He offers and gives Himself to us as victim, companion, viaticum, and the pledge of future glory.” The Eucharistic presence of Jesus in us is lim-ited to the brief moments while the sacred species last, and ceases as soon as these disappear. However, Je-sus expressly said, “He that eateth My Flesh and drinketh My Blood abideth in Me and I in him (Jn. 6:57). Now the word “abide” does not signify a pass-ing visit, but is expressive of a stable, permanent state. Hence, from Our Lord’s own words, we can see that our union with Jesus continues even after the sacred species are consumed. And this is the literal truth. First, union with the divinity of Jesus does not cease, since the three divine Persons dwell continually in souls in the state of grace; but there is also a certain enduring union with His humanity. Even when Christ in His sacred humanity is no longer substantially pre-sent in the one who has received Holy Communion, he is there by the influence of His operative presence and by the effusion of His grace. The Heart of Christ is no longer with us sacramentally when the appear-ances of bread and wine have disappeared, but He still abides with us spiritually…(From Divine Intimacy by Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalene, OCD)

Solemnity of Corpus Christi June 3, 2018

Welcome, Sister Adorers of the Royal Heart of Jesus

The sisters are making a grand tour of the American Apostolates of the Institute of Christ the King.

The sisters are leading a non-cloistered contemplative life and dedicate them-selves to praying for priests. They are a revival of the sisters of the Visitation (founded by Saint Francis de Sales - the Community of our own Saint Margaret Mary) of which their habit is inspired.

The purpose of the tour is triple. - The sisters will know better the Apos-tolates and faithful for whom they pray daily. - They will give information on their

own daily life and mission… Many sisters are from America and their visit will certainly sparkle more vocations . - They hope for some assistance for the formation of the sisters and for the restoration of their home.

The sisters will visit Saint Margaret Mary over the weekend of Corpus Christi
