ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE
Look to your August-September-October 2010 Moose Magazine. On Page 26, third column, three quarters of the way down. Note the line item: Stockdale Chapter #1203 @ 160% membership improvement. This evokes so many thoughts: What caused our "little ole’ Lodge to jump as it did? Moreover, when it is so very hard to get recognition in the International magazine as a small lodge speaks volumes on the desire to be a true organization of fraternal regard. An understanding that we are to benefit others while we enjoy the warmth of camaraderie is always sought by a gregarious people. . "I, for the better we," best describes what we are – a team work-- group, punctuating every need with emphasis on the “Good!”
"Now More Good News" For over a year, the Admissions Committee (Governor Mike Budy) has been working to fill the desire of a member of our lodge to move, and live out his years at Moosehaven, Jacksonville, Florida. Gerald brewer, a member of Stockdale Lodge, is retired and in need of the care and benefits that the Moose Fraternity provides. Our membership should be aware that this is big!! Moosehaven, on the banks of the St. John river, is a paradise, replete with the best medical facility in the country. Life changes to a calmer, more serene style of existence. What better way to be.” BE AN INTUIT-----GET INTO IT!" Tom Esser, Administrator
GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE Brother Jerry Brewer has been accepted to Moosehaven. Please join with him in celebrating this joyous time on October 15, 2010 at our Lodge. Donations are needed for his trip and some additional clothing. Thanks to Michael Shull for the construction of the past Governor and Sr. Regent picture frames and Mike Budy for mounting the pictures. Please visit the meeting hall to view these pictures. Thanks to Glenn Holland and Dave Bransen for the lodge hour’s signs. Both signs are mounted in the social quarters. Thanks to Dave Oscars and Carla Hangos for taking on the task of the Monday night Football pool and Dave for picking up a donated patio heater. Thanks to Bob George for recycling the glass and cans this month. We need more volunteers like him. The lodge has lost one of our members, Irene Gallardo. We all miss her especially the BINGO volunteers, which she was one. Condolences go out to her family. “The Time is Now”, Members that sponsor TWO new members a year will “NEVER PAY DUES AGAIN”. Mike Budy Governor

COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Moose of the Month for October is:
Lonnie Hord
. Lonnie has worked on many projects for our lodge. Recently he has finished our mini-bar in the social quarters and put in many hours helping the governor sheetrock the social quarters. Lonnie is one of those rare members that if you ask for help he helps. Show your appreciation by thanking Lonnie. For being Moose of the Month. Lonnie will enjoy his Moose of the Month parking place, two Friday night dinners and two drinks at the Lodge.
Please do not park in the Moose of the Month parking space as these individuals have earned this
award and everything that comes with it.
Now is the time to get a Community Service event going in our Lodge. Community Service is one of the best ways to do something for the community as well as our Lodge. By having a community event, it will bring in new members and those members will bring in new members as well. Eventually some of those members will attain Legion status. Sign up two members in the Lodge or Legion and you receive a year’s dues, Thank you to Sarah Long for doing the car wash for MS. We understand there will be another one in October (watch for it in the calendar). Our ladies are collecting canned food for the needy families in our community. Micki Bishop is collecting supplies for our military service Men & Women. Alan Shaw playing music two days a week at retirement homes. We are trying to put another blood drive together, if you can help, please talk to Mike Budy. Our Make a Wish Car Show is going to be March 12, 2011. If you are interested, we meet Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM. Thank you to Bob George and all of his crew for putting on the Luau -- it was a real success. Over $1,000.00 was raised and will be used to help with costs in our Lodge. Thank you all for your support, Don Perry Community Service Chairman

Sickness & Distresses
"Thievery!" Writing about this subject is not one of my favorites, but I felt I should. I want to preface this column by saying I believe in the power of prayer. Having said that, I want you to know that I regularly say a prayer for the Lodge and its members. Some I specifically pray for; others are as a general prayer for all. God in his wisdom has given us all a conscience. He knows there are many temptations. The conscience is a helper on our journey through life. Some listen always, others completely ignore that small voice. Not only are people stealing from the Lodge, but each other. I have no clue who you are but God certainly knows. You might think it is only petty stuff, such as stealing cigarettes left unattended at the bar, or money also left unattended on the bar, etc. It also includes food from the kitchen, which has been purchased for a specific dinner or event. It could be utensils and items used to make meal preparation easier, It does not matter if the theft is large or small. Why are you jeopardizing your soul? I think some of you think that the Lodge can absorb the loss. The Lodge is on a budget the same as everyone else. Every time I hear of an incident, I ask God to find a way to reactivate your conscience. There are times when members share the bounty of their gardens. That is a different situation – help yourself. There may be some who steal from others for spite. They are a lot worse off than those who steal for need. Please, stop this behavior for you insult God when you do it.
“Listen – be wise and keep your heart on the right path.” Proverbs 23:19.
Sincerely, Dorla Stork, Chaplain Mike Shull, Prelate
SR. REGENT’S MESSAGE
Wow, can you believe it three months to Christmas. The time is now to volunteer to make this fall and holiday season a great success and fun for all. Looking forward to seeing each of you at the monthly meetings held on the first and third Mondays of the month. As I am sure you are all aware we lost a great friend and volunteer with the passing of Mary Irene Galardo on September 7th. A great number of our Moose family will miss her. I want to thank all those who volunteered to help me with the September Friday Night dinners. Thank you Jeannie, Dorla, Claudia, Lynn, Jenna, Nancy K., Governor Mike, and Dale. I also want to thank Jeannie and Nancy K. for volunteering to serve the Legion Luncheon. All volunteers make our lodge great and an enjoyable place to spend time. Anyone wondering how they can help; even if only a few hours a month, please contact any of the Moose officers. Remember the time is now for each of us to step up and make a difference to your lodge and community. Wednesday is BINGO! We need volunteers.
Susan Cowen Senior Regent
A NOTE OF THANKS
(Bottles and Cans – Cleanup & Recycle) Thanks to Administrator Tom Esser and Governor Mike Budy for taking care of our recycling this past month. It is always good to get the empties away from the back door eliminating the flies and the mess. It makes the back yard area more pleasant to use. All of the money received goes back to the Lodge. Please remember not to discard your soft drink cans; leave them at the bar to be recycled. This turns into money for our lodge. Please contact me if you have a couple of hours to donate on a Saturday morning. Many hands make light work. Bob George Jr. Governor

This issue is dedicated to Mary Irene Gallardo
who was an inspiration. Irene regularly donated her time monthly to help get the newsletter ready to mail and Bingo. Despite some of her infirmities she always had that “can-do” attitude. We Loved her and she will be missed.

Member Sponsor Donna Baker Peggy Crissman
Ladies, we need to do better than this. It is not hard to recruit new members all you have to do is ASK. ASK your neighbors, relatives and co-workers to join our fraternity. We have so much to offer such as activities, great inexpensive meals, a friendly place to meet and greet and above all camaraderie. Remember, if you sponsor two members your dues will be paid for next year. Gee! What an incentive. We have many fun activities planned for this month, the Adult’s Halloween party on Oct. 30th and the Kid’s Halloween party on Oct. 31st. Please plan to attend. We still need volunteers to help out at Bingo on Wednesday nights. Could you possible donate a couple of hours to help us out??? Please contact the office, Susan Cowan, Sr. Regent or Jeannie Young. We would welcome you with open arms. I would like to thank Billy and Janelle Bishop for helping decorate for the Luau, you were lifesavers. Fraternally, Marlene Lyday, Recorder

A Luau Thank You (Mahalo) GOLF
Thanks to everyone who attended, our Luau - it was a great success. We all had a really good time. Thank you to everyone for all the time and energy put in to help make our Luau such a success. Thanks to Paul Crissman and Chuck Hord for preparing the meat, it-was---delicious!). Thanks to the Women of the Moose, headed up by Sr. Regent Susan Cowan, for the hours and hours spent preparing and presenting the side dishes, the fresh fruit, salad, and rice. To Frankie and Tom Wysocki who brought in and cut up huge amounts of fresh fruit, and Sally Morrison, who made the delicious mango salsa. Lynn Ochoa was once again there volunteering time and expertise to make this event a success. Thanks Dave Oscars and Karla Hangos for setting up and running the Tiki bar, and to Don Perry and his assistants for selling the raffle and 50/50 tickets.. A huge thank you goes out to LaVerne Perry, Nancy Tristan and Barbara Hord for baking those absolutely wonderful pineapple upside-down cakes. They were so much better than anything we could have hoped to purchase commercially. Thank you to those who helped with the games: Gabriel and Nancy Tristan, Donny and Laurie Perry, and everyone else who was involved. Marlene Lyday, Billy and Janelle Bishop and Rob George (Jr) who worked on the decorations and setting up the room which set the “islands” mood for the evening. A huge thank you goes to Claudia Rickard for all of the work put into designing and printing of the tickets, the colorful fliers advertising the event, and the programs. I also want to thank my wife, Anita, and my sons, Rob and Jerry, who were there to step in and do whatever was necessary at a moment's notice. I apologize if there is anyone I overlooked. All of the assistance has been greatly appreciated. Bob George Jr. Governor

ACADEMY OF FRIENDSHIP
LEGION NEWS
This month will be an easy going one as we have Columbus day and then Halloween. For those of you who missed our last celebration shame on you. We didn't even have very many lodge officers nor did the ladies give us the pleasure of your company. Not only that -- where were all the bowlers? The Taft lodge were the only ones to show up and participate. Pretty bad when our own members don't get behind the programs we have for you, so let us hope that in November, at our next get together everyone will give some support. We had as our Guest Mark Klein, one of the Supreme Legion Councilmen as our guest. We did have one outstanding, part though, as we enrolled three new members into the second degree. We also voted to pay our obligation to Mooseheart for the Mooseheart street lights, youth awareness, and the Senior package. In addition in that vote was to pay CNMA per capita tax for the legion. Many of you have been told about the free dues you may earn by sponsoring two qualified lodge members into the legion, you will receive a year’s free dues in the Legion. Many thanks to each one of you who did attend the celebration. Hopefully more who hold the degree will show up so we can have a good turnout and a lot more fun. Clyde Smith
Chairman
Hi everyone, I am back from Montana and ready to have some fun. Thank you JoJo for stepping in for me while I was gone in September. JoJo brought games and we had some prizes to give away. We had plenty of laughs and a great time. If you have not been to Friendship lately, come and join us. We are going to do some fun things this year! If you have any ideas or things you want to do let us know. Our next meeting is Oct 25th. So, come join us! Donna Slifka Chairman
Moose Droppings (Letters to the Editor)
Dear Editor – why do I have to keep cleaning up tables on busy nights like Taco Tuesday and Friday Steak-night? There always seems to be one or two groups who leave their whole mess on the table or on the new mini bar. Puzzled, Minnie Moose Minnie – there a few very rude members out there or there are new members who do not know about Lodge courtesy, They forget there are no waiters, house cleaners or moms to clean up after them. It is lucky for the Lodge members that you interrupt your evening fun to clean after these boors, so the Cooks & Servers & Bartenders can serve you quicker instead of running around cleaning up tables.
Moose Droppings (Continued)
Heads up People – bar glasses & beer pitchers, to the bar, cans to the bar for recycling (money for us), .and plates etc. to the kitchen area. OH, and there are trash bins for the paper goods! {Sigh} The Editor
