When you are away and think about the Moorings, do you envision a wide open white sand beach with the sound of surf, aquamarine ocean, tiki huts, the smell of salt air, palm trees and a cool steady breeze? In 1972, Jorge Gonzalez conveyed nearly three acres of ocean front property to the MPOA. That was an extraordinary gift. SAVE THE DATE THE MPOA

(The Moorings of Vero Property Owners’ Association, Inc.)

ANNUAL MEETING FEBRUARY 16, 2018 4:00 pm

The MPOA requests that each of its Members, when using the Beach Property, pick up and place in the garbage cans or bins any bottles, cans, oth-er containers and foreign ma-terial, such as cigarette butts, paper, plastics, etc., that are observed on the ground, the Tiki Huts or walkways. The dog owners who use the Beach Property are already doing an excellent job of policing the beach and the Beach Property, as are the MPOA's landscap-ers. However, they need and should receive addi-tional help from each MPOA Member. The beauty of The Moorings enhances each Member's property values. With a little effort, we can enhance that

beauty for the benefit of all.

Calling all Sea Mist grand-

children! The Easter Bunny

has hidden eggs!

Eleven of the children under

the age of 10, participated in

a hunt to find 450 Easter

Eggs. Three of these golden

eggs contained a $20 bill,

one for each family partici-

pating.

This activity was the brain-

child of Betsy McCaffrey,

daughter of Sandy

McCaffrey, a resident of Sea

Mist. Each child was given

an Easter Basket for collec-

tion. The families who had

grandchildren in the hunt

were from the McCaffrey,

Sullivan and Miller fami-

lies.

A spectacular time was

had by all adults and chil-

dren of Sea Mist. The spec-

tators cheered the hunters

on and in some instances

even gave hints as to where

the candy and toys were

hidden.

Sea Mist Court’s Easter Egg Hunt

First of all, I would like to welcome back all of you as we begin a new “season” in paradise. During the summer months your MPOA Committees have been very busy keeping up with their usual duties, as well as dealing with storm related issues. The Beach Committee was particularly busy this summer on a number of projects, including two

beach cleanup days, one that involved the MYCC summer children’s pro-gram. They also oversaw the removal of several invasive plantings at the Beach Ac-cess and supervised the trimming of the sea grapes and palm trees. We all look forward to a fun winter here in para-dise. Again, welcome back!

On Monday, March 13th, George Bryant, our most recent past Presi-dent of the MPOA hosted 14 Presi-dents of the 17 areas within the Moorings at a meeting at the Moor-ings Yacht & Country Club. Mr. Bry-ant moderated the discussion. His main topics were; Sharing the first ever, newly initiat-ed forum established by Ardi Schnei-der, North Passage representative on the Board of Governors, called “Landscape Share” amongst all of the Moorings communities. The possibility of a “Share Group” to negotiate an attractive yearly contract for all Communica-tion Services; TV, Internet, Tele-phone. Discussion and sharing of exten-

sive recent research and legal work done to address Pet Policy issues within each of our commu-nities. The President of South-winds led the topic. Discussion of a software applica-tion called Nextdoor.com; a free social network for your neighbor-hood. It is an internet “bulletin board” used by South Passage since 2016 for communication be-tween South Passage residents with each other and, their South Passage Board members. Lastly, Dr. Richard Baker, Presi-dent of the Audubon Society and resident of Vero Beach gave a fas-cinating presentation on key La-goon issues currently discovered. Most importantly, he emphasized

the Indian River County recent Fertilizer Ordinance. **From June 1- September 30**

Use of fertilizer containing nitro-gen or phosphorus is prohibited. Violations of this ordinance can result in fines up to $200. Please contact the County Officer; 772-226-1565. The next meeting will be held in mid March 2018.

END OF SEASON TIKI HUT PARTY No tickets were necessary for our last Tiki Huts Party of the season, just a willingness to bring an appetizer to share along with your favorite beverage and to like steel drum music and seeing friends dance. We ended our winter Tiki Huts season with a crowd of over 100. Along with lots of first timers and new residents to meet, we had a gorgeous sky and perfect beach weather for our evening filled with laughter and the pleasure of making new friends and seeing old friends. Try not to miss our next Tiki Huts party. Bring your family and friends and lets help make this season the best one yet!

Moorings Real Estate Update

2017 near year-end results show a strong marketplace in The Moorings this past year. Num-bers are up in both condominium and single family homes sales. In single family homes sales, total sales volume by price is currently more than double last year’s total sales volume at this same time, $16,902,341(2016) $36,614,375(2017). We are still seeing a strong de-mand for our properties, the big-gest frustration for buyers at this time is the lack of inventory in The Moorings. Currently Sable Reef, Galleons, Billows, South Passage, Sea Mist Court and Windward do not have any prop-erties available for sale. Overall, The Moorings has ap-prox 4% on the market, usual is closer to 10%. If you are consid-ering selling, this is an excellent time!
