Fall Festivals Abound! Where I live, the leaves are already beginning to turn, the
past few days have been much cooler and thoughts turn tofootball and other Fall activities. How about bringing thefamily together with a fun, yet simple football-watchingparty? Keep in mind there are ways to keep it simple andinexpensive so you can kick back and relax come kickofftime. Try these tips to quickly plan, shop and set up yourparty so you can spend time with your friends and family
on game day:1. Establish the atmosphere - Keep the
atmosphere fun and festive. Stock up onparty supplies and foods like hot dogs ora nacho chip bar. Setting up foods "DIY"style allows everyone to create their ownfavorites.
2. Tidy up the viewing area - Keep thepaper towels handy throughout the view-
ing area for guests in case of spills orwipe fingers and faces.
3. Have extra supplies handy - In addition to paper tow-els, think about what else you might need on hand likeextra batteries for the remote and supplies for the bath-room. You do not want to run out of either when everyoneis over to watch the game!
4. Give kids a special space - Set up blankets, pillows,pom-poms in the team colors and other football parapher-nalia as a kid's cheer section right in front of the TV. They'lllove the front-and-center seating arrangement while theadults will appreciate lounging on couches and chairs.
5. Keep the enthusiasm going all game long - Don't letthe energy sag come halftime. Pass around sweet littletreats and hand out football-themed word puzzles to keepthe kids occupied.
6. Make cleanup simple - Since your guests will be enjoy-ing the food and the game for several hours, the dirty dish-es can pile up. Invite your family into the kitchen for thegame recap.
Now there should also be time to get away for a familyweekend event, or two, or three. I’ve noticed there are asmany festivals scheduled during this time of year as thereare in the summertime. Celebrating harvests, history andheritage, we have Oktoberfests, Burgests, Cuba fests andHarvestfests. See page 10 for a description of several festi-vals in Missouri.
