Trevor Haldenby

The Mission Business is a creator of immersive future scenarios for companies who want to explore, innovate, and change the world... but we started off as an interactive entertainment company. This presentation explores our roots, and our first three projects — the entertainment experiences ZED.TO and VISITATIONS, as well as our first corporate commission, a sci-fi experience come to life called ByoLogyc: Shadowfall for Autodesk IDEAS.

“The entire show happens around you rather than in front of you, so you’re as much a part of it as anyone in the cast. The organizers have pioneered some wonderful new approaches to interactive entertainment.”

PRAISE FOR

“ZED.TO’s ambitious experiment in large-scale interactive theatre is sweeping the city, and

redefining the relationship between audience and performer.”

"Crafted with obvious talent and energy, and if you’re willing to match even a fraction of said energy it promises to be a very fulfilling experience. The ZED.TO team prove themselves to be capable innovators in this intricate scenario.”

PRAISE FOR

"Your experience grows the more you interact. You are not bored when you participate. You are a

vital and integral part of the show.” —Mooney on Theatre

"People have not just watched the story unfold, they’ve become

involved in it, and they in some sense steer where the story will go.”

— FAB Magazine

"Not a detail is missed. The corporate video is slick, the characters compelling, and at the end you’re jolted and left wanting more.”

— The Grid

“Experiential futurism in Toronto. And they sell tickets!”

An intimate, interactive, supernatural adventure for 24 participants, played out across multiple spaces within the Drake Hotel… and beyond.

Spring 2013

Page 18: The Mission Business: Origin Story

"The audience is very much at the heart of the action in Visitations, exploring rooms, decoding messages, solving puzzles, and trying to prevent a catastrophe -  or perhaps being used to bring one about."  ★★★★

"The Mission Business’ latest creation is like a cross between a video game and traditional theatre, giving individuals the

chance to affect the fictional narrative being played out. It’s a new breed of interactive theatre that invites us to take a

glimpse into the future of an ancient art form."

"Visitations is a step towards a new theatrical nirvana. It jumps across platforms to tell an immersive, make-your-own-adventure story that is not only engaging, but also ultimately more entertaining."

“The Mission Business gave us a view not only into what we want from our new technologies, but why we want it. !It’s one thing to read a science fiction short story about the future or a comic book based on science fact that explores the human implications of science, but it’s very much another sensation when someone hands you a science fiction prototype and asks you to put it in your mouth. !That’s what imagining the future can do. It’s the role that science fiction prototyping can play in the design of the future, the design of all of our tomorrows.”

Brian David Johnson, Intel’s Futurist reviewing Shadowfall for Computer Magazine
