The Michigan Disease Surveillance Systems contains three major sections:
1. Navigation Buttons on the left side of the page
2. Search methods section on the right of the page
3. Data Display and Task Interface area in the middle of the page.
Disease (Case) ManagementDisease (Case) Management Search for Cases (Two Types)– New Cases are active– Completed Cases that are inactive, both
are located in the Case View (the center portion of the screen).
Search Methods – Case ID– County – Investigator– Alert Status– Case Status– Disease– Referral and Alert
From and To Dates– Last Name– First Name– Geographic Extent– Wild Card Searches

empty blank line that is not in the Case Identifying Information box,
and enter information. Place the cursor over check boxes and click to
enter a check in the box.

Report Features: You may rerun the report by
changing the year and county at the top of the screen.
You may create other reports by
clicking on one of the Worksheet listing on the left portion of the screen.
You may be able to “drill down” on
a specific item or disease by clicking on a small icon located next to the disease title.
Setting a Threshold for AlertsSetting a Threshold for Alerts
Click the drop down arrow in the Disease field and select the disease name. Tab or click the cursor into the Threshold, Days, and Contact Email fields and enter this data. After entering this data, click the Save Alert button.
Case DefinitionsCase Definitions
Disease definitions can be found by clicking on the Case Definitions button. A separate window will pop up.
