So much of our prayers are consumed with our needs; so many prayers are clothed with doubt and despair;

so often our prayers are chained with human wisdom and limited insight. Our prayers hunger for awe and

wonder; they crave childlike amazement fueled by our astonishment of who God is and what He does.

What amazes you about God? What leaves you speechless about His power, presence, and love for you?

For me, it’s the resurrection. In those chaotic hours on the morning of Jesus’ resurrection, Peter and John

raced schoolyard-style to the tomb. After arriving and taking in all there was and wasn't to see, they stood

dumbfounded with mouths wide open. And though we’re told that John “believed”, we don’t know exactly

what he believed, because the Scriptures tell us all of the disciples were still baffled at the death of Jesus.

Luke tells us that Peter walked home in a stupor, overwhelmed by every remarkable thing he couldn't

understand.

It’s striking that the early followers of Christ were shocked and bewildered by Jesus’ resurrection while

modern believers are comfortable with it. Paul argues in 1 Corinthians 15 that the resurrection is the

linchpin of our faith, and yet Christians only talk about it at Easter. For some reason modern believers

never truly react to the resurrection like those first believers...overwhelmed with awe. We believe in the

resurrection and debate its validity and authenticity with passion. We believe Jesus, once a corpse, walked

out of that tomb alive as the “first fruits” of the resurrection. We believe His resurrection proves the truth of

the gospel, and proclaims the promise that through Jesus’ triumph we have eternal life as a new creation in

His presence. We believe in the resurrection, but are we in awe of it?

The awe and wonder of the resurrection ignites hope in me that I can’t explain in mere words. Joy,

bewilderment, and astonishment all intersect for me at the empty tomb, and all I can do in response to my

awe of the King who died and rose for me is kneel in prayer and worship Him. My awe of the resurrection

fuels my worship as I pray. It frees my prayers from the consuming narcissism of perceived needs; it

liberates my prayers from doubt and despair; it releases my prayers from the chains of human wisdom and

insight. My awe of the resurrection allows me to pray for something bigger than myself. In his book Awe,

Paul David Tripp wrote, “Awe of God teaches me that my life is enormously bigger than merely my life.

By grace, God has connected me to things that are huge and eternal. I am not at the center of things.

What I want should not be the principal motivator of what I do and how I spend my time. The choices and

investment I make in my world must always submit to the reality that I have been called to the building of

the kingdom that is not my own. Success is not about how well I’ve been able to build my own little

kingdom but about the degree to which I’ve done all I’ve done in the service of a greater King.”

Awe of God moves us to pray for more than our little kingdoms; it moves us to pray for His.

What amazes you about God; what leaves you speechless about His power, presence, and love for you?

What is it about our faith that “drops your jaw”, unravels your sense of the universe, and overwhelms you

with awe of who God is and what He has done? If you truly are in awe and wonder of King Jesus that your

prayers will focus on something bigger than yourself; they will focus on Him. As we continue to concentrate

on prayer this year, may we seek our King, crave His presence, and never cease to pray for our community.

May we truly be in awe of Him!

“When We All Get to Heaven…”

Ed Stetzer, in a recent Mature Living Magazine, has an article entitled, “Taking the Long View: Live Your Earthly Life with Heaven in Mind”. As Christians, our perspective on the future impacts our decisions in the present. This truth is taught throughout the Bible. The Apostle Paul, having had experienced as a tentmaker says, “We know that if our temporary, earthly dwelling is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not made with human hands.” In 2 Corinthians 5:1 Paul is reminding us of a reality we must ALL acknowledge, that our physical lives are fleeting for life is short. But scriptures also make it clear that for faithful followers of Jesus our best life will come later and last forever. Right now a confident hope that should permeate our lives is found in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “We walk by faith, not by sight.” I pray your aim for each day is to please God, both now while we are in our physical bodies and later when we see Jesus and live for eternity.

“Onward to the prize before us; Soon His beauty we’ll behold; Soon the pearly gates will open; we shall tread the streets of gold.”

Today’s world is full of voices...TV, Radio and Social Media! Although some of this information may be good, much of it can quickly take our focus

away from God’s voice of Truth. In Psalm 86:11, David prays for God to teach him His way and to give him an “undivided heart”...a heart focused

on God! This “undivided heart” refers to our love for God and surrendering to His will. As we worship God, let’s set aside those things that would divide our focus and affection and give God ALL of our heart!

We had an exciting time participating in “Touch a Truck” on April 24th. We got to meet and distribute information to a lot of young families and as a result we had a new family join us at our recent Faith Adventure event at Stag Air Park.

Our first Camp, Centrifuge at Liberty University, is two weeks away and I am excited with the group of students we have going. There is a total of eleven middle school students and four adult chaperones going. Please pray for salvations or a time of spiritual refocusing for all of our group.

Our second Camp, P2 Missions in Washington DC, is six weeks away and we just recently got partnered with a local church planter in DC. We have a great group of high schoolers and adults going so please pray for us and Kenji Adachi, our church planter with All Peoples Community Church (Fairfax). Pray for salvations and spiritual refocusing not only for those we minister to but for our group as well.

Summer time is here and with it comes tons of fun and exciting activities, programs and events for our children! We have VBS Cave Quest on June 20th thru 24th, Music Camp on July 18th thru 21st, our children’s trip to Camp Caraway on July 25th thru 29th, the Children’s Lock-In on August 12th & 13th and don’t forget our Summer A.R.T. Club that runs all summer long on Wednesday Nights! WOW! What a summer! I can’t wait to see all the amazing things God is going to do with and through our wonderful children this summer.
