Celebrating America’s Godly Heritage….

Celebrating America's Godly Heri-tage. One of our ladies at church, whose mother is in the hospital, told me about an incident with her mom's nurse. The nurse had hugged her and her mom before her shift was over and told them she would be praying for her mom's healing. The nurse replac-ing her heard her and reported her to their supervisor and she was written up for it. America has certainly become more than just a pluralistic society. While our society is open to any and all religions, there has been a growing antagonism and hostility to Christianity. There was time when someone praying for a sick person was considered an act of kindness. And to most people that is still an act of kindness. But the attacks against anything Christian is becoming more common, from at-tempts at removing the phrase “one God” in our pledge of alle-giance to prayers, even silent prayers, being outlawed in our schools.

What is interesting is in spite of this antagonism and hostility, our coun-try still exhibits some Christ-like characteristics. When natural disas-ters happen, either in our neighbor-hood or anywhere in the world, Americans still are the most gener-ous people on the face of the planet. People would take off from work to help others. The United States is still the only superpower in the his-tory of man that tries to better the life of nations and peoples it con-quered-- helping people rebuild their homes, hospitals, roads, estab-lishing schools, etc. I believe these characteristics are the result of a solid biblical and Christian foundation. On Sunday, July 1, we will get to travel in time with David Barton (on DVD) as he revisits America's Godly Heritage during the Sunday school hour in the Fellowship Hall, and we will be reminded that the greatness of America is God's gift to a people who started out firmly rooted on the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible.
