We know that sooner or later, Angelo State University will want our property. We also know they can exercise the power of eminent domain if they choose to since they are a state school. The power of eminent domain is “the power to take private property for public use by a state, municipality, or private person or corporation authorized to exercise functions of public character, following the payment of just compensation to the owner of that property.” We had a lawyer look into this situation many years ago and this was his conclusion. We have also sought counsel from people in the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention, the state convention with which we are affiliated, and they walked us through the normal process of the state exercising its power of eminent domain. The only questions that remains are how much will they compensate us for our property and when will they want it. Our Relocation Committee has looked at/investigated several potential properties in San Angelo. One of those properties is owned by a church and the property is located across from Bonham Elementary School. This is the property that we will be discussing this Sunday. I am excited about the possibility of us having something available when ASU wants our property. We want your input on this very important subject. I want to encourage everyone to continue to pray for God’s guidance, that we as a church move and make decisions with one heart, and with singleness of purpose: that of making disciples, who make disciples, who make disciples...wherever we are. Don’t miss our special meeting this Sunday, January 13th, immediately after the morning service. We know that sooner or

later, Angelo State University will want our property. We also know they can exercise the power of eminent domain if they

choose to since they are a state school. The power of eminent domain is “the power to take private property for public use by a

state, municipality, or private person or corporation authorized to exercise functions of public character, following the payment of

just compensation to the owner of that property.” We had a

lawyer look into this situation many years ago and this was his conclusion.

We have also sought counsel from people in the Southern Baptist

of Texas Convention, the state convention with which we are affiliated, and they walked us through the normal process of the

state exercising its power of eminent domain. The only questions that remains are how much will they compensate us for our

property and when will they want it.

Our Relocation Committee has looked at/investigated several potential properties in San Angelo. One of those properties is

owned by a church and the property is located across from Bonham Elementary School. This is the property that we will be

discussing this Sunday. I am excited about the possibility of us

having something available when ASU wants our property. We want your input on this very important subject.

I want to encourage everyone to continue to pray for God’s

guidance, that we as a church move and make decisions with one heart, and with singleness of purpose: that of making disciples,

who make disciples, who make disciples...wherever we are. Lakan
