Happy New Year everyone! I hope the weather will not keep
you from the January club meeting. We’ll be getting back to
having a speaker at our next few meetings. I hope you find
them interesting and will learn something new. The GLFB
Garden Project has a wish list and Julie Lehman, our
January speaker wrote me that she would gladly accept
your contributions at the meeting. In particular she
thought we might have quart canning jars and unused
garden books to donate. I know I have some of both to
bring her.
Please note that the January meeting is being held on the
4th Monday, January 23! This is because the MLK Holiday
falls on our usual meeting date and the Township Hall is
closed.
Our club New Year's Resolution for 2017 is to obtain and
organize Photo Releases for each member. We are off to a
good start with a great spreadsheet created by Peggy
Fankhauser and her daughter which will record the
responses. At the coming meetings we will seek to fill in
the gaps and even redo the ones we have. Your
cooperation is greatly appreciated so that we can freely
share and publish photos without concern.
My very best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year,
especially for those dealing with health issues in their
families. It will be Spring before we know it!

If you are thinking about starting a new community garden
project or getting involved at an existing community
garden, Garden Leaders Training is just what you need to
get growing! Join the Greater Lansing Food Bank’s,
GARDEN PROJECT, for a series of educational courses that
provide information and technical guidance on how to
engage community, identify resources, set up successful
growing spaces & more! This is not a gardening class— it

(gardening) projects.
With attendance, there will be opportunities to network,
gain leaderships skills and apply for garden resources.
Suggested cost per session is $5-$30 sliding scale to cover
learning materials and will take place over 3 Saturday
mornings, 9:00am-12:30pm
at the Foster Community
Center near downtown Lansing. To RSVP, email
[email protected] or call (517) 853-7809.

A thank you note from Meridian Cares for the cash
donations we made at our Holiday Luncheon. The food
items we brought were given to the Meridian Cares Food
Bank located at the church.
Dear Meridian Garden Club Members:
The generous contribution of four hundred ninety five
dollars is deeply appreciated and will go directly to
assisting those what are experiencing a financial crisis.
Thanks to thoughtful gifts like yours, households like that
of Rachel, a cancer patient whose family's utilities had
been shut off, can have their service restored when no
other assistance is available, and ensure that their
household does not face further hardship, such as
homelessness.
Since its inception in 1972, the Community Resources
Program has assisted more than 2500 households,
including 491 in 2015. This year, requests for assistance
are constant, and being able to help is only possible
because of thoughtful contributions from people like you.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions
regarding your donation to the Community Resources
Program or if you would like an update. Again, thank you
for help us provide assistance to residents in need in
Meridian Township.
Sincerely,
