    Millennium Declaration of 2000

    In September 2000,

    189 UN member states

    signed the MillenniumDeclaration and

    committed themselves

    to eight specific goalsaimed at ending

    poverty by 2015.

    Millennium Declaration commitment:To achieve quantifiable goals and

    targets until 2015, using 1990 asbaseline, that will at least ensure thatdevelopment initiatives are effectively

    MDG 1 :Eradicate extreme poverty
