Diana is a 27 year old widow and mother of 2 young boys who live on a mountaintop in southern Bogota. Three years ago her husband was accidentally killed by a local street gang. Left alone with her children, she can only take odd jobs close to home because of the extreme travel time across the city and not having anyone to provide child care. Working at odd jobs near home or sewing clothes, Diana makes around $100 Cdn/month, 25% of the normal minimum wage - not nearly enough to really provide for her family OR repair her home which is at the point of falling down. Inside was not much better, no floors and both the kitchen and bathroom were falling apart. A few months ago we were contacted by a friend in Edmonton, who knew a family that wanted to honour their recently deceased parents. They asked us to find a family in great need so we contacted a pastor who sent us 5 potential projects. Diana was selected to have her house rebuilt. In a few weeks their lives changed dramatically. Dear Friends,

Life for Diana Chavez has become about bare survival. Diana is a 27 year old widow and mother of 2 young boyswho live on a mountaintop in southern Bogota.

Three years ago her husband wasaccidentally killed by a local street gang. Left alone with her children, she can onlytake odd jobs close to home because of theextreme travel time across the city and nothaving anyone to provide child care.

Working at odd jobs near home or sewing clothes, Diana makes around $100 Cdn/month, 25% of the normal minimumwage - not nearly enough to really provide for her family ORrepair her home which is at the point of falling down.

This Summer’s Teams

Over the summer we were privileged to host two teams andwe also had a very special couple come to visit from Canada!

First up was Metro City Church from Detroit. With 15 highenergy youth we spent 10 days ministering in churches andschools. We even got a chance to visit a new town, Maripi, part of Colombian’s emerald region. Colombia, accountsfor more than 60% of the world’s emerald productionand these are areas that were once hotly contested by variousfactions trying to control the mines.

It took two hours in a bus up and down gravel mountainroads, but we arrived to a warm welcome in the local highschool with over 300 students!

During the outreach we shared the Gospel with some 3000students, almost all were in schools where no Christian grouphad visited before!

No sooner had Metro left, than the team from The GatheringPlace in Pickering, Ontario arrived, but with a different goal.

A construction team, they came to build the 2nd floor of thecabin they started last year at the retreat centre in Villeta. Wewent from a bare slab to having the walls up in only 5 days!

Not satisfied with just building, they spent the evenings doingMen’s Ministry and Saturdays they led a very special trainingcamp - Evangelism Through Sports, training dozens of churchleaders in a new way to reach their communities.

Lastly, Stewart & Gudrun Huntercame for a 5 day tour. The Huntersare Missions Reps for thePentecostal Assemblies of Canada. They came to spoil us a little andget to know our work, but they alsocame to minister to our pastors inBogota and in churches in Villeta and Chiquinquira.

Prayer Points

- In January 2013 Darren’s sister was diagnosed with terminalcancer. She was given a prognosis of 6 months to a year.

Her wish, if not to be completely healed, was to have ournephew Zachary become an adult with his mother at his side. Last week Zachary turned 18 and Brenda, while having herchallenges was able to celebrate it at his side. Keep Praying!

Gratefully,

Æ Darren, Patty, James & Darien Æ

Just as Jesus had a group of people who sustained Him (Luke 8:1-3), we also depend on God’s provision as expressedthrough His children. Please consider partnering with us through your giving.
