Beightler Provides Holiday Magic For 15 consecutive years, Columbus’ Beightler Armory has hosted
Fairhaven School and other Madison County children with disabilities for their
annual holiday spectacular.
There were games, crafts, hand/face-painting, but what the students were
looking forward to most was the visit from the jolly guy in the red suit.
For many Decembers, Beightler Armory was synonymous with the
Columbus schools that serve children with disabilities, but Madison County
youngsters have been the grateful recipients since 2004.
This year’s Madison County students included ones from Fairhaven,
West Jefferson, and Madison-Plains multiple disabilities classrooms.
Upon arrival, the kids were greeted by National Honor Society students
from Hamilton Township High School – who not only facilitated games and
crafts, but also dressed up as beloved holiday characters such as Rudolf the
Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman.
Much preparation goes into this event by the military and civilian personnel of Beightler. Through
fundraisers like their popular Chili Cook-Off, the non-profit organization provides each child with a special gift
presented by Santa himself.
As usual, Santa did not disappoint as he was adorned in his trademark red suit, and iconic white beard –
walking in to thunderous applause.
And for the kids, they were the beneficiaries of yet another one of the countless acts of kindness done by
military personnel every day. See Beightler Day in photos on Page 2

MATCO RAFFLE
The Season of Giving Remember the old adage -- It is
better to give than receive?
Sometimes you can do both, and
feel just as good.
Now through December 18,
MATCO Services will be holding its
Annual Holiday Raffle. Chocked full of
wonderful prizes, every ticket is a
potential big winner. And, each ticket
purchaser can feel great because all
monies received go to benefit adults with
disabilities in Madison County served by
MATCO.
“We have done this for more than 30 years, and this is definitely the best raffle prizes we’ve had in
the past 10 years,” said MATCO CEO Van Viney. “For example, each basket is valued at over $25.00,
with more still coming in.”
In addition to theme-based baskets ranging from Red Robin to Auto Zone, there are several more
things which can be won with a single raffle ticket. Among the number of big ticket items are a $200 Ohio
State Parks gift card, a $175 Car Detailing, $100 Sam’s Club gift card, a wireless keyboard and mouse
from Staples, as well as the much sought-after Instant Pot (and cookbook).
According to Viney, some of the past proceeds from the raffle have been used to purchase holiday
gifts for families in need, fees for statewide conferences for individuals with disabilities, and specialized
equipment so people of all abilities can participate in activities.
Tickets are one dollar each, or six for $5.00. They can be purchased by calling 740-852-7054, or by
visiting either of the following London-based locations -- MATCO Main Office (204 Maple Street) or
MATCO Assembly Division (460 E. High Street).
All purchases may take place up to the drawing date December 18. People need not be present to
win.
