Summer of Service 2013 As we mentioned in our inaugural issue of The Lunch Times, A Summer of Service 2013 is the brainchild of TLP parents and volunteers Sarah and Jon Michael Morgan who were intrigued by TLPs mission to foster a sense of philanthropy and global awareness in all people. Tanzania Trip 2013Looking forward to the trip, one participant offers his thoughts.

Hi, Im Charlie Riddle, a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This summer, I am venturing out of the country to go to Arusha, Tanzania on the mission trip through The Lunch Project. Myself, along with a handful of others will be aiding the local school community in Arusha. We are charged with helping out in any way that the community needs. Building desks, teaching the kids, feeding them lunch, playing games, and sewing uniforms are but some of the ways we will contribute. I first became aware of The Lunch Project and the mission trip from a friend of mine who went to Arusha last year. After hearing about his life changing experience, I decided this opportunity was too big to pass up. With the outstanding help of family and friends, this trip was made possible for me, and I couldnt be more excited. I see this mission trip as a way not only to help others who desperately need aid, but as feeding my own soul. I could tell you that I hope to have a life changing experience or be a better person because of this trip, but in truth I have no idea how this will affect me. I plan to go as a blank slate and let God work his magic. I hope to see you on the other side Charlie Riddle

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

The team is in need of the following items to donate to the school: Handwriting pads, the kind for kids to practice their handwriting on, with lined paper on one side and plain on the reverse. Crayons Markers Construction paper ChalkIf you would like to donate to the team please email us at [email protected] with the title Team Supplies in the subject line.We will be taking a large supply of baby items with us for the Mamas and 35+ handmade pillowcase dresses for the small girls, generously donated by a private, local dressmaker here in Charlotte. If you would like more information about this trip or want to sponsor their service projects, please email us at [email protected].

TLP T-Shirts!Coming soon!

The Tanzania Trip Team will be rocking our staff shirts, as will Ernest, our In-Country Coordinator, and all the Mamas who cook our lunches for the children at Lemanyata. We thank Kelsey Dorset, the newest member of the TLP Team and our Marketing Maven, for giving her time and talents. We will be offering the non-staff shirt for sale very soon!(All shirts are paid for by team members, no money comes from TLP funds to offset these costs)Exclusively designed TLP Lunchskins! Lunchskins, which are reusable lunch bags are available for purchase. Email [email protected] with lunchskin in the subject line. The cost per lunchskin is $10 and 50% of that goes directly to lunch money.TLPs got SWAG!And last but not least a HUGE thank you to two girls who chose to do fundraisers for TLP at their birthday parties this year. Mary Stafford and Sophie Jorge , at separate events, in separate states, raised received enough money to fill well over 3,000 bowls through TLP! Its extraordinary what kids can do when the numbers are placed in front of them and their hearts are opened to their power! To Cardio craze for their fundraiser that raised enough money for one desk and a lunch!THANK YOU especially to Rubys Gift, who have kept TLP close to their customers hearts by selling items dedicated to TLP with no interest in making a profit, just all the interest in making a difference.Looking Backwards Cheering THANK YOU!Here at TLP we feel exuberantly blessed every time we get to post a picture on the Facebook page of smiling and sometimes very serious children, cups in hand. Its so exciting to send out invitations to an upcoming TLP sponsored event or when we are invited to speak about the simplicity of what TLP is doing and how people can help by raising their awareness and sharing generously. So this is an issue where we get to look backwards at some of the amazing organizations and people who have kept TLP alive in their conversations and businesses, in their consciousness, hearts and minds.

LOVE & FLEECE fed over 900 with their event raising awareness and lunch money through the support of its customers purchasing their books and toys.THANK YOU!To the International Fashion Style Academy for their Pret A Portea where Fashion Met Philanthropy! The Southpark Rotary Club for continuing to support TLP.Nanine Hartzenbush who shared the gift of photography at her Mothers Day Photo Mini Sessions. and fed 9,000! Thank you!THANK YOU!Continued thanks to Antioch Elementary School for all the cups and school supplies for Lemanyata!Theres a wonderful new blog entry by Tricia on the webpage. The picture is of one of TLP Mamas and her baby.

Empowerment: One Bowl at a Time http://thelunchproject.org/blog/Answers:1. The three friends are holding a bowl in one hand and a book in the other. 2. These items mean many things. They symbolize the lunches we serve at Lemanyata Primary School and the importance of food the world over. The book represents not only the education the children in Africa enjoy, with full bellies from TLPs service but also the education children here in the US are receiving from TLP about the importance of global philanthropy, of problem solving and helping one another.3. The three friends do not have real faces because they could be anyone! They are not any race or religion, color, age or gender. Support for one another has no name or agenda! Youll notice too, they are all connected.4. WE ALL DO!!! Rex wants you to really look at our logo today and ask a few questions

1. What do you see the people holding?2. Why do you suppose they have these things?3. Why dont the people have real faces?4. Who loves supporting TLP?
