Energize with Basil

Basil leaves are natu-ral stimulant, giving you

an energy boost whenever you’re around them. Sniff-ing them can even reduce

migraines and ease depres-sion, according to scent

studies! How to grow: Basil pre-

fers full sun, so keep plants in an area where they’ll get

eight hours a day.

Zap A Rashwith Chickweed

If it seems like this feath-ery little plant with tiny white star-like flowers is taking over parts of your yard, don’t fret. Chickweed has a along history of topical use by the Amish and others to relieve itches, bee stings, and bug bites. And now research re-veals the reason: It’s an effective antihistamine. Slice open the stem and apply directly.

Soothe Sun Damage With Aloe

Relieve Poison Ivy with Impatiens

This colorful annual has an anti-inflammatory agent that counter-acts the irritants in poison ivy and poison oak; in fact,it’s extract can provide itch relief in minutes and

overnight rash reduction for 95% of people. Slice the stem and rub the inside on the exposed area, or boil it into a tea and freeze in ice cube

trays - whenever you get a rash, rub the ice cube over it.

Aloe is great for soothing sunburns. The gel inside the leaves has anti-

inflammatory compounds that have been found to penetrate

skin cells 500% better than water - the reason it cools on contact! The most effective way to benefit: Break off a stalk ( it’ll grow back) and squeeze the gel right onto the burn.

So You Want to Take a Cruise Some Do’s and Don’ts

Pack your carry-on bags wisely. Pack important meds or toiletries in the bags you will personally transport onboard. This is important if your lug-gage gets lost on the way to your cruise, at least you’ll have your essentials with you.

Know the dress codes. While some folks still like to dress up (formal gowns and tuxedos) for ships’ formal nights, most people dress in business attire. Most cruise lines offer buffet-style dining for dinner versus the dining room, even on formal nights. Dress up is choice.

Consider doing laundry onboard. Find out if your ship has laundry facili-ties. If you want to pack light (and do laundry en route)-- not all ships offer free (or for-fee) laundry facilities. You can always save on laundry costs by bringing travel detergent and rinsing out underwear and shirts in your cabin’s bathroom.

Don’t assume your favorite toiletries will be in your cabin. You’ll always find basic toiletries onboard, such as soap and shampoo. In main cabins on some cruise lines toiletries offered are limited (in some cases to pump bottles of mystery soap affixed to the wall), so you may want to make room in your luggage for your favorite brands.

Dress for your destination. Simply put, when in port, some places are more formal than others. Don’t forget to think about your in-port activities; flip flops are fine for a beach day, but you’ll want more comfortable shoes for long days of sightseeing.

Remember the basics. Items you might want to pack because they’re not provided or super-expensive to buy onboard include: extra hangers, flash light, alarm clock, over-the-counter meds, batteries, camera memory cards, sunscreen, ear plugs, plastic bags for transporting liquids or wet things and a power strip to charge your electronics.

Keep all important documents with you. Always make sure you pack your necessary IDs and cruise documents -- and never pack them in your checked luggage. You’ll want your passport or other photo ID and cruise ship boarding pass on hand so you can board. Make sure you have the cor-rect type of identification. Homeland Security has specific ID requirements. Be a smart cruiser.

Go where the wild things are. Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge & Nature Center is a 1000-acre plus, wild place that includes three-and-a-half miles of barrier island beach plus mainland pine scrub forest habitat and a Nature Center. Remarkable for its natural beauty year round, the refuge offers quiet spaces where time almost stands still. Sand crabs scurry, scrub jays call and manatees bask in the lagoon. Discovery: Night action is the real story during the summer months as the prehistoric sea turtle nesting ritual commences. To witness the egg-laying is awesome. Volunteer “turtle scouts” watch the breaking waves for incoming female turtles. Once a female turtle has been spotted turtle walk participants move quietly to a safe observation spot.(Hobe Sound Nature Center. 13640 U.S Highway 1, Hobe Sound, 33455. 1(772) 546-2067 or www.hobesoundnaturecenter.org)

Made You Smile !BLONDE ON THE SUN

A Russian, an American, and a Blonde were talking one day.

The Russian said, ‘We were the first in space!’The American said, ‘We were the first on the moon!’

The Blonde said, ‘So what? We’re going to be the first on the sun!’ The Russian and the American looked at each

other and shook their heads.‘You can’t land on the sun, you idiot! You’ll burn up!’ said

the Russian. To which the Blonde replied, ‘We’re not stupid, you know.

We’re going at night!’

IN A VACUUMA blonde was playing Trivial Pursuit one night... It was

her turn. She rolled the dice and she landed on Science & Nature. Her question was, ‘If you are in a vacuum and someone calls your name, can you hear it?’ She thought

for a time and then asked, ‘Is it on or off?’

FINALLY, THE BLONDE JOKE TO END ALL BLONDE JOKES!

A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were. The blonde responded by saying that one was named

Rolex and one was named Timex. Her friend said, ‘Who-ever heard of someone naming dogs like that?’ ‘HELL-

LOOOOOOO......,’ answered the blonde. ‘They’re watch dogs’!
