The beer is flowing at Fort Lauderdale’s new sports bar, Bokamper’s, thanks to the hometown heroes at LMK Pipe Renewal. Named after former linebacker for the Miami Dolphins, Kim Bokamper, the new sports bar and grill recently opened its fourth location along the Intracoastal Waterway. The restaurant, which has well over 100 TVs, seats approximately 900 patrons and employs nearly 300 people, uses a 130ft. long, 6inch diameter PVC underground conduit. This underground conduit hosts a bundle of beer lines and beverage hoses, which travel from the beer cooler to the bar. Just days before opening, Bokamper’s ran into a roadblock. As the beer lines were being installed, they found an obstruction in the conduit that prevented the hoses from being pulled through. The contractor, LM Development Group, Inc., called upon LMK Pipe Renewal to resolve the problem. They discovered a portion of PVC that was almost completely missing, allowing sediment to collapse into the conduit. After jetting and removing the sediment, LMK Pipe Renewal lined the 3ft. section of nearly absent conduit by installing a CIPP liner 9ft. long using the Performance Liner® launch tank, designed by LMK Technologies. This trenchless technology involves several features that helped make this a successful repair, including its ability to start the liner at the point of repair, despite the 130ft. length of the conduit. Another important feature is the camera port, which allowed the technicians to visually verify that the liner was fully deployed before curing. In addition, the Performance Liner® system utilizes a one-step inversion process, which enables the liner to be installed with a single inversion and cure properly as constant air pressure is kept on the liner until curing is complete. Needless to say, the repair was a success, and the beer lines were installed in time for Bokamper’s grand opening. So next time you’re in Fort Lauderdale, stop by Bokamper’s to catch a game, and don’t forget to thank LMK Pipe Renewal when you’re enjoying that ice cold glass of freshly poured beer.

The contractor, LM Development Group, Inc., called upon LMK Pipe Renewal to resolve the problem. They discovered a portion of PVC that was almost completely missing, allowing sediment to collapse into the conduit.

After jetting and removing the sediment, LMK Pipe Renewal lined the 3ft. section of nearly absent conduit by installing a CIPP liner 9ft. long using the Performance Liner® launch tank, designed

by LMK Technologies. This trenchless technology involves several features that helped make this a successful repair, including its ability to start the liner at the point of repair, despite the 130ft. length of the conduit. In any CIPP system, it is the resin that provides the structural integrity of the repair. Therefore, having the proper amount of resin for each liner is essential for an optimally installed and cured liner. For many years, the preparation of resin at LMK Technologies has been an arduous and time-consuming task involving the use of large, 55 gallon drums that had to be mixed and hand-poured into smaller, individual pails. Recent improvements at LMK involve the use of a semi-automated Resin Filling System, which requires only one operator and minimal labor.

To begin the process of resin filling, the operator loads empty five gallon pails onto the conveyor belt, which are then moved down the conveyor belt to the resin dispenser.

The technician inputs the level of promotion onto a small user interface screen, and the proper amount of resin, accompanied with the accurate amount of promoter, is then dispensed into the pail. Next, the weight of the resin is verified by a built-in scale, and the pail continues down to the crimper, which securely locks the lid in place. Finally, a vacuum hose lifts the pail, and the operator simply guides it on to the cart or pallet, where it is released and now ready for shipping.

LMK’s new Resin Filling System provides many new benefits, including decreased probability of spills, increased productivity, safer work environment, and a more efficient process from beginning to end.

One of the factors that sets LMK apart from other technology providers in the CIPP marketplace is the strict manufacturing process that each liner must undergo in order to meet the highest standards of quality and workmanship. LMK’s T-Liner®, used for main-to-lateral connection lining, involves several steps to ensure that maximum quality is achieved. One of these steps includes the application of a flexible adhesive that is cured by ultra violet light. The effective adhesive seals the sewn seam that connects the mainline sheet to the lateral tube. Recently, LMK made some revisions to the UV curing process that includes benefits of enhanced safety, efficiency, and cleanliness. While UV curing is extremely effective in sealing the main-to-

lateral connection, the process itself was time-consuming. The idea for a more productive, user-friendly system for UV curing was developed by Candy Frandin, an LMK manufacturing employee. LMK’s new UV Curing Station is a round turntable that has four curing positions. This allows up to four technicians to work at the station at the same time if necessary. The table has a central column that supports an upper level, which holds the lateral tube. This helps to keep the long liners untangled and uncluttered as they move through the UV Curing Station. In addition, ventilation hoses have been installed at each station, helping

to eliminate the exhaust generated from the UV curing process. While all operating personnel are required to wear appropriate eye protection, the use of UV resistant dividers assists in protecting the technicians’ eyes from the harmful UV rays. LMK’s new UV Curing Station provides the T-Liner manufacturing process with a much cleaner, safer and higher quality sealed connection.

Continuous Improvement Important for Employee, Candy Frandin

Enhanced Filled Resin in Field Trial Stage LMK has always been and continues to be a research and development technology company focused on seeking new ways to improve productivity and quality. For the past year, work has progressed on qualifying a resin system that will improve working time in both cold and hot weather conditions and have superior physical properties once cured.

The LMK656EN (enhanced) polyester resin system is currently being used in field trials with a targeted introduction date of March 2014. The LMK656EN system has continuously exhibited physical properties that exceed the ASTM F1216-09 minimum value requirements for flexural strength and tensile modulus.

Once the field testing stage is completed, a product rollout plan will be communicated for transitioning from the current LMK656 to the new LMK656EN.
