THE LION’S DEN Orange High School’s Newsletter Summer 2017 Message from the Principal - Paul Lucas, Ed.D. It’s always a bittersweet time of year; saying goodbye to a really great group of students is tough, but it’s so nice to see the summer finally arrive in Cleveland. I would like to congratulate the OHS Class of 2017; they will be missed! They have accomplished a great deal over their 4 years at OHS, and I’m sure I’ll be hearing many great things about them in the near future. I wanted to provide a reminder that final exam grades for students currently in grades 9 – 11 will not be indicated since the final exam grade will be based on the score each child earned on their State End-of- Course exams. These scores are anticipated to be returned from the Ohio Department of Education at the end of June, therefore updated report cards with each final exam score will be issued in July; please watch for future communications from me. Thank you to the parents, students, teachers and staff, Board of Education, and the Orange communities for the support in another successful school year. I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing summer vacation and I look forward to an exciting 2017/2018 school year…let the planning for next year begin! Paul M. Lucas, Ed.D. Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year! Each year the staff and administration try to offer new opportunities for the students of Orange High School. Due to the long-term success of the OHS Robotics program, it is now being offered to all students as an elective. Also offered for the first time this school year is AP Psychology, which has an incredible enrollment of 81!
Last year I traveled to Denmark in order to establish a partnership with a high school in Herning, Denmark. In October, OHS will welcome 27 students and 2 teachers from Denmark for a weeklong experience. In April, over two dozen OHS students and 3 staff members will travel to Denmark for a reciprocal experience. This 3-year partnership is the first in what I hope becomes an extensive international program for the students at Orange High School. I was recently selected by the College Board to participate in a trip to China in order to learn more about the Chinese education system. Additionally I will have the opportunity to try and establish partner schools for a possible student/teacher exchange program for the coming years.
Along with new opportunities in curriculum and instruction, the new school year brings new staff members. This year Orange welcomes the following staff to the Orange family:
William Derrick – Mathematics Ciara Mastin – English
Jeremy Ondo – Foreign Language Frank Peters – Science
Jean Vargo – Administrative Assistant to the Principal
Again, welcome to the 2012 – 2013 school year. I am always happy to talk and/or meet with you at any time to discuss your child, the educational programs at Orange High School, or anything else you might need. I look forward to another great year and please stay in contact with your child’s teachers, as well as the administra-tion and guidance staff.

It has been my pleasure to have served as the OH PTA president this past year. I want to acknowledge and thank the OHS PTA board, committees and volunteers for their hard work and support. It has been another successful year and I am proud of all we have done to support the students and staff at OHS. Through its membership and fundraising efforts, OHS PTA was able to contribute over $25,000 towards the students, teaching staff and activities at Orange.A very special thank you goes out to all the parents who worked on and/or financially supported the 2017 After Prom. They worked all year to put together an amazing event to keep our students safe after the Prom. We need and will ask for your support again next school year. Please know that every single person makes a difference! Congratulations to the OHS PTA board members for next year!2017-18 Orange High School PTA Board

Junior & Senior Parents… The After Prom Countdown Has Begun!
Less Than 100 Days to Go… Can We Count On You to Help?
What Goes On At After Prom… Located near the Prom venue, this year’s 2016 After Prom takes place on April 16th at The Corner Alley in Midtown. The event is a 40-year tradition that keeps students safe following Prom and provides memorable fun for all involved. A $20 ticket to the event includes transportation to/from the venue, bowling, a DJ, entertainment, and food and beverages. But we can’t make this a reality without your contributions! Why We Need Donations… The Orange High School After Prom event is 100% funded by donations from families and community businesses. Thanks to significant support each year, ticket prices to this event have stayed at $20 per student – only 25% of the actual event costs! We need your help again to ensure this event is accessible and affordable to all juniors and seniors and their guests – whether they choose to go to Prom or not. How to Donate… You can either send a check or pay online. To send a check, complete the form below, or to pay online, go to www.orangeschools.org/AfterProm and follow the link to donate online. Please contact the After Prom Co-chairs, Donell Newman ([email protected]) or Karen Swift ([email protected]) if you have questions or need additional information. Thank You! Thank you to all of you who have taken part in our fundraising efforts to date. For their generous donations and gifts to this year’s After Prom activities, we’d like to specifically recognize the following companies and families who have already supported this 40-year OHS tradition.
Thank You! OHS AFTER PROM 2017After Prom this year was held at Fun N Stuff in Macedonia, and everyone had a great time! They
enjoyed rollerskating, rock wall climbing, go-karts, bungee bouncing, putt-putt golf, batting cages, laser tag, arcade games and lots more! It ran from 11:30p-2am and the students wanted to stay
longer – which is always a good sign!
Thank you to our AMAZING committee of parent volunteers. They worked so hard all school year long to give our Juniors and Seniors an After Prom to remember. We couldn’t have done it
A HUGE thank you to our Corporate and Parent donors!! Through your generous support, we were able to keep the ticket price for After Prom to $20, which is wonderful for all that they
were able to enjoy and experience.
