The Lily Foundation The Lily Founda/on was set up in memory of Lily Cur/s, who died aged 8 months of a Mitochondrial Disease. Her parents learnt how li@le infor-ma/on was available about this Disease and they formed The Lily Foun-da/on which is now funding research projects at Guys and St Thomas’, Great Ormond Street and Newcastle University Hospitals to improve and speed up diagnosis of Mitochondrial Disease, prevent it’s transmission and to improve services for those living with the disease.

Mitochondrial Disease a@acks the part of the cells in our bodies known as the mitochondria which transform all the food that we eat into the correct energy for each par/cular cell to survive. When they don’t work properly the cells die which in turn leads to organ failure. The condi/on is extremely difficult to diagnose as each individual is affected in differ-ent ways.

The Lily Founda/on is one of the only chari/es in the UK who fund re-search into this condi/on

20p from the price of this programme will be donated to the Lily Foundation

WELCOME TO

The Three MusketeersThe Three MusketeersThe Three MusketeersThe Three Musketeers Welcome to our produc/on of The Three Musketeers, SDC's 77th panto-mime. The script is an original adapta/on of Alexander Dumas' classic nov-el, and is the third wri@en by Andrew Nicholson, a member of the club. Ka/e Eynon chose this tale for her pantomime directorial debut, aUer per-forming in many of our shows over the past five years.

Our tale is set in Paris in 1625, and we follow the adventures of D'Artagnan as he pursues his ambi/on to join the The Musketeers, the sworn protectors of King Louis XIV. Although D'Artagnan is not able to join this elite force immediately, he befriends the three most formidable musketeers of the age: Athos, Aramis, and Porthos, and with them must help protect the bumbling King and his Queen Anne from the evil intellect of Cardinal Richelieu, Louis' chief advisor. Meanwhile, the King and our dame, Fleur de Lis, are on the hunt for France's greatest treasure...

While The Three Musketeers may not be a long established pantomime, the show you are about to watch is a tale of courage, teamwork, honour and bravery, and includes all the usual pantomime ingredients, upholding the finest tradi/ons of the genre.

We hope that you enjoy the show!

The production team Katie Eynon (Director) This is Katie's first time in the pantomime director's chair, having pre-viously directed two one act plays for our sum-mer production in 2014. Although she has sat at the helm, this has not been a solo effort, which reflects the theme of our story - working together! She would like to give her sincere thanks to everyone involved in this production for their commitment, unwaver-ing support, and helpful advice. It's been 'such fun' - all for one and one for all!

Claire Giles (Choreographer) Claire returns again as our choreographer to guide the chorus and whip the cast into action. At the same time she has to keep a close eye on what Roquefort is up to

Sarah Huggett (Choreographer) Sarah quite often appears in the cast, but this year is assisting with the choreography becase she has a much bigger ‘production’ on the hori-zon. Mandy Grace (Children’s Choreographer)

Mandy Grace appeared in SDC pantos from 1996 to 1999 in the senior chorus. She is now Principal of the "Dance with Grace" school of dancing in New Addington and we welcome her and the chil-dren again to Sanderstead.

Catherine Reid (Musical Director) This is Catherine’s first non-appearance as she is normally to be seen on the stage instead of in front of it. But this year has been trying to get the cast to sing as our Musical Director. She is again ably assisted by the other members of the band and we are very happy to welcome her in to this new role.

The cast Claire Desbottes (D’Artagnan) This is Claire’s first chance to be Principal Boy and she is making the most of it. Mind you as a third generation SDC member she is one step ahead of her father (John) who has never been a principal of anything.

Hazel Istead (Constance) Hazel last appeared in pantomime in 2012 playing Dandini in Cinderella. Last year Ha-zel Directed Snow White. Hazel has tried alternative roles including Front of House Manager and Choreographer. But Hazel is delighted (and very nervous) to return to the stage playing Constance

John Shepherd (Fleur de Lis ) John is delighted to add a completely new title to the list of pantomimes in which he has ap-peared over far too many years. He is very relieved to discover that his role is restricted to word-play not sword-play!

Dot Reid (Athos) A year has already passed since Dot played the wicked stepmother and so she is happy to return to the goodies by playing a musketeers. New challenges come with being one of the kings musketeers not least many a sword fight!

Page 7: The Lily Foundation - Sanderstead Dramatic Club€¦ · The Three Musketeers The Three Musketeers Welcome to our produc/on of The Three Musketeers, SDC's 77th panto-mime. The script

Jane Manns (Aramis) Jane returns to Panto looking forward to im-mersing herself in the character of Aramis al-lowing her to ‘strut her stuff’. Aramis is skilled in sword play, this is something that should come naturally as Jane is known for her feisty karate chop!

John Desbottes (Porthos) John has been a member of SDC for more years than he cares to, or indeed can, re-member and was last seen in Pantomime as a Chinese policeman, without any trace of an accent. He now appears as a French Mus-keteer and it would seem that accents are not his strong point as the Director asked him to drop the French accent - at the audi-tion!

David Apps (Richelieu) Bonjour! Another exciting SDC panto and I am pleased to have been cast as that really nice chap, the Cardinal. My two left feet are trying to master the dance steps, and my tone deaf hearing is pretending my singing is in key. Plus my brain is struggling to remember the words. But apart from that it's all going well. After all, it's All For One......and that One is me!!

Darren Giles (Roquefort) I really enjoyed my role last year in Snow White I had to come back and do it all again. It has been a challenge becoming evil and learning the art of sword fighting but great to work with such a great cast and director.

Jill Fortune (Milady) Jill has taken a number of roles in our summer productions and this year make a welcome return to panto after an absence of several years. She is relishing the part of an undercover baddie.

Tim Crump (Duke of Buckingham) Having spent the last couple of years running the sound desk Tim returns to the Panto stage but is struggling with speaking the French lan-guage - being the Prime minister of England

Rob Etheridge (King Louis) The Three Musketeers is Rob’s third outing with SDC on the stage after two stints in the summer play and three previous pantos spent attempting to look busy backstage. He has taken to playing a bumbling, vain and snobbish King like a duck to water and would like to thank the cast and crew for a fun-filled panto debut.

Amanda Facey (Queen Anne) Amanda first joined SDC in 2012's production of 'Cinderella' as part of the Senior Chorus. She has been dancing her way through the shows and has been cast in previous Summer Plays, but has now finally decided to take the Royal stand as Queen Anne. Amanda has enjoyed being a part of the main cast and giving her dancing feet a rest.

THE CHILDREN’S SOCIETY

The Society works with and for children and young people across the na-tion, putting their needs at the heart of everything it does, focusing on those most in need – children and young people pushed to the edge of society, those whose needs are not met by government services or other agencies:

♦ Children at risk on the streets

♦ Children in trouble with the law

♦ Young refugees

♦ Disabled children

The Society is seeking more charity box-holders – a small box in your home for collecting those excess coins weighing down your pocket or purse, which is emptied once a year.

If you are interested in helping the Society's fundraising in this way, or wish to make a donation, please contact the Sanderstead Fund Raising Com-mittee on 020 8668 6769 or come to our box opening and coffee morning on Saturday 23rd January (10am–12pm) at All Saints Church Hall.

Sanderstead Drama/c Club is suppor/ng the work of the Children’s Society again this year by dona/ng /cket vouchers for the performances on Tues-day, Wednesday and Thursday, money raised from these /ckets goes to the society.

SANDERSTEAD DRAMATIC CLUB PANTOMIMES

Page 15: The Lily Foundation - Sanderstead Dramatic Club€¦ · The Three Musketeers The Three Musketeers Welcome to our produc/on of The Three Musketeers, SDC's 77th panto-mime. The script

SANDERSTEAD DRAMATIC CLUB Sanderstead Drama/c Club was formed in 1907 and presented its first pro-duc/on at St Michael’s in West Croydon. Despite this loca/on outside Sanderstead, the Club was firmly based in the local community which pro-vided all the members and at that /me consisted only of some 340 houses and a popula/on of 1660. But it was not long before the Club looked for a suitable venue in Sanderstead and moved to the Memorial Hall in Purley Oaks Road which it made it’s home un/l 1956 when the Club moved to the then new All Saints Parish Hall.

At it’s height in the 50’s and 60’s the club could boast a membership of some 400 and in addi/on to the produc/ons ran a full calendar of social events, but the advent of greater mobility and the increase in alterna/ve forms of entertainment led to a decline in the Club’s fortunes but it con/n-ued to present the Annual Sanderstead Pantomime, for which it is perhaps best known. SDC also now presents a play each Summer at the Sanderstead Memorial Hall. History repea/ng itself!
