LEEA LAUNCHESCONFERENCE IN DUBAI
LATEST ON LIFTEX
MEMBERS GATHERAT GOLF DAY
AND MORE!KEY ROLE TO PLAYIreland defines scope of work duringtwo
well-attended Roadshows
LEEA demonstrated its credentials to support members andend
users of lifting equipment in Ireland at two successfulLifting the
LoadOut on the Road Roadshows in Belfastand Dublin during the same
week in June.
The association delivered a lifting equipment
exhibition, seminars and networking opportunities to Belfast on the
Tuesdaybefore travelling south to Dublin two days later. Each
Roadshowtook place from 10am to 3pm and included presentations
ontopical subjects, professional networking, exhibition space
forLEEA members, a buffet lunch and was free to attendees.
TheRoadshows exceeded original expectations and welcomed 47visitors
to Belfast and 45 to Dublin.
Presentations got underway at 11am and were delivered byAndrew
Wright, learning and development manager; and DenisHogan, UK
country manager and regional managerwest. Wrightintroduced the LEEA
Academy before Hogan tackled LiftingEquipment Documentation.
Hogan said: There was demand to take our Roadshowconcept to
Ireland and continue to raise our profile in a marketthat is facing
many challenges and opportunities related to thesupply and use of
lifting equipment. Both events were measurablein success by the
level of questions and interaction followingpresentations and
around the Roadshows generally.
Irelands Health & Safety Authority (HSA) has responsibility
forworkplace health and safety in the southern region and LEEA hasa
clear role to play in the provision of technical and legal
advicefor those working with lifting equipment in the
geography.
Hogan said: There were many questions about technical andlegal
matters and it was encouraging that, as the representativebody for
all those involved in the lifting industry worldwide, wewere able
to provide the answers that will be helpful to attendeesand their
companies moving forward.
Hogan explained that there are many similarities to
observebetween the documentation produced by the HSA and that of
theUKs LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting EquipmentRegulations).
The HSA regulations are being used by the oil andgas sector which
represents another fit given the volume ofactivity taking place in
exploration off the Irish coastline, heobserved.
LEEA also has a role to play in inspection because the oiland
gas sector requires people who are qualified to do the work,Hogan
added.
LEEA currently has 13 members in Northern Ireland and thereare
14 existing members in the Republic of Ireland. Theassociation has
recently received five new applications formembership in the
Republic which will go through themembership assessment process
and, if successful, will receiveformal offers of membership from
the association.
LEEA will take the Lifting the LoadOut on the RoadRoadshow to
the Holiday Inn, Cardiff on 17 September.

understanding ofthe equipment they willsee in the field. We
havesuspended enrolmentsonto online courses forthe summer allowing
allnew students for Part 1and Lifting EquipmentGeneral to go
directlyonto the new system inSeptember.
The technical teamhave been busy withaudits of members acrossthe

practicalsessions using all this new equipment intothe runways and
light crane structurescourse.
The LEEA Roadshows in Ireland werewell supported and a great

possibly through a localtechnical subcommittee reporting into
thetechnical committee.
The LEEA Lifting &Rigging Conference Asiain Singapore saw
150delegates enjoy a widerange of speakers overthe two days.
Thedelegates all gave goodfeedback about the eventand the success
could bewitnessed by the factthat the room was stillfull at the end
of thesecond day despite yourstruly being the closingspeaker!
John and Emma madea visit to the newLiverpool ExhibitionCentre
to view the finalstages of theconstruction. The facilityis
excellent and shouldensure that LiftEx 2015 isa great success.
The LEEA Golf Day,organised by RUD Chainsat Celtic Manor, was
a
great success despite Wales living up to itsreputation for rainy
weather. That didntdampen the enthusiasm of the 56 golferswho
attended. Alan Walton did anexcellent job organising it and now
passesthe baton over to William Hackett for the2016 event, which I
understand will beheld at a course just outside Durham.
