Witherspoon Memorial Building, on May 14, 2008. There were tours, food, trivia questions and door prizes that added fun to the celebration. Since the library has been operating in the new building, there has been 29,955 more patrons to visit than in the previous location. In the first two months since our grand opening 831 patrons registered for new library cards. This was double the number of new cards given out in the previous year. The W.C. Witherspoon Memorial Library Building has more space for staff as well as new and upgraded patron services. We continue to offer services such as: FREE Computer Classes, computer lab usage for 1 hour a day, fax services, community meeting and group study rooms, and patron placed holds. Wi-Fi Internet is available to everyone. Materials in the teen section have grown by nearly 500 items. An extra 201 DVDs has been added to the previous collection of 76. The Library staff has also grown by five (5) new employees. The W.C. Witherspoon Memorial Library Building offers our patrons an esthetically pleasing building to check out materials, do research or just to sit in the periodical section and read a magazine. National African American Read-In
The library joined thousands of organizations across the country and around the world by participating in the 19th African American Read-In. The African American Read-In is a project of the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English, designed to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month through the public appreciation of works by black authors. This event was the kick off to Black History Month. This free public event was sponsored by the Teen Advisory Group. The library hosted this event with very special guest readers:

My name is Beatheia Jackson and I’m a graduate of Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Psychology. I began my library work at the G.R. Little Library at Elizabeth City State University. I joined
the staff of the Pasquotank Camden Library in 2006.
Enthusiastically, I serve on several committees: Black History Month, One Year Celebration of new library,
Bookmobile Grant, and the newsletter committee. I have also attended several workshops such as: NC LIVE
Ready Reference Resources, NC LIVE Resource Training, and Preparing for the Digital Television
Transition. My position entails answering reference questions, giving tours, checking in/out computers, and
requesting interlibrary loans. I created a ready reference blog to answer frequently asked questions; this blog
can be found at http://infoser.pbwiki.com/Pasquotank%2BCamden%2BLibrary If you can’t find the answers
you’re looking for on my ready reference blog you can use our Ask A Question via email service. This
service allows patrons to have their questions answered within 48 hours.
I earned my Pharmacy Technician degree form Computer Dynamics Institute (CDI) and I am now a certified
pharmacy technician (CPhT). I am also licensed in the state of North Carolina as a pharmacy technician.
I find both of these positions challenging and enjoy helping and working with people.
If you have any questions, whether general or reference, do not hesitate to call me at 335-7536. You can also
