Leaves of Life: Jim Reilly

Heartfelt thanks to: The Durst Family, David Emmer Printing, Gossett Brothers Nursery,KLSD Print Shop, LandmarkPrint, Inc., and Ted Strauss Websites

-- visit us at www.lewisborovac.org. --

Our special gratitude to: Waccabuc Country Club, especially John Assuma and his staff, and all the people who wrapped, set up, packaged, picked up, delivered, hauled, painted, collected, invited, cooked, baked, ran errands, put up posters and signs, and set up.

Another Way to Contribute

Over the past several years, the Annual LVAC Auction has included another way to make a direct and specific donation towards equipment that is required on our two ambulances. Along with the traditional Silent Auction and the “Big Ticket” Live Auction that caps the evening, there is the Leaves of Life exhibit located at the entrance to the main tent. Each leaf on the board is marked with an item of medical equipment and a suggested donation. Some of these items are used frequently, e.g., dressings, oxygen masks, Epi-Pens, blankets and collars while others are more durable, such as adult and pediatric backboards, traction splints and life saving Automatic External Defibrillators. You may select from a range of prices and items marked on the leaves and make a donation right there that will be earmarked for our equipment budget. A number of these items are on display, and an LVAC EMT is there to assist you and explain their use during an emergency response. The display is available throughout the evening.

YOUR KEY TO LIFE SUPPORT

Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps

In 1977, LVAC began with one used ambulance in a rented garage in Cross River. The present building was dedicated in 1981, and was constructed by local citizens and merchants who generously donated materials, time, and expertise to the project. A great deal has changed since then, and in 2009, a new addition was completed in order to facilitate our increased needs for training and meetings. We currently maintain two state of the art ambulances, as well as two state certified fly cars. In 2008, LVAC crews responded to well over 400 calls for emergency service, which is a significant increase over previous years, and the projection for the 2009 year is consistent with this number.

All our members are trained in the latest techniques and protocols of emergency care, including CPR and operation of the automatic external defibrillator, or AED. In addition to the ambulances and fly cars, six of our EMTs are equipped with AEDs in order to facilitate rapid response to life-threatening cardiac emergencies. LVAC EMTs are also certified to administer epinephrine for severe allergic reactions and albuterol for acute asthma attacks.

In addition to providing emergency medical care to the Lewisboro community, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, our riding members volunteer their time as standby crews for high school athletic events, the Town Fireworks, the Leatherman’s Race, the Memorial Day races and fair, the South Salem Firemen’s Parade and Carnival, and other community events.

Since LVAC is not funded by any town, state or government agency, and never charges for its services, we rely on our annual letters of appeal, grants, memorials and other donations to cover our operating expenses. This evening’s event, LVAC’s Annual Country Auction, is traditionally our biggest single source of revenue.

We want to thank you all for coming tonight, and we hope you have a wonderful time! We extend our sincere gratitude to the Waccabuc Country Club, the donors and merchants who have contributed items and services, and most especially, to those dedicated volunteers who have year after year worked to make this a successful event.
