1637 3 JOHN 11–JUDE 7
1 Jude, a slave of JesusChrist, but a brother of James, ato the
called onesb who are lovedby God the Father and preservedfor Jesus
Christ:c
2 May mercy and peace andlove be increased to you.
3 Beloved ones, although Iwas making every effort to writeyou
about the salvation we holdin common,d I found it necessaryto write
you to urge you to putup a hard fight for the faithe thatwas once
for all time deliveredto the holy ones. 4 My reasonis that certain
men have slippedin among you who were long agoappointed to this
judgment bythe Scriptures; they are ungod-ly men who turn the
undeservedkindness of our God into an ex-
cuse for brazen conducta andwho prove false to our only own-er
and Lord, Jesus Christ.b
5 Although you are fullyaware of all of this, I want toremind
you that Jehovah, hav-ing saved a people out of theland of Egypt,c
afterward de-stroyed those not showing faith.d6 And the angels who
did notkeep their original position butforsook their own proper
dwell-ing place,e he has reserved witheternal bonds in dense
dark-ness for the judgment of thegreat day.f 7 In the same man-ner,
Sodom and Go·morrah andthe cities around them also gave

11 Beloved one, do not imi-tate what is bad, but imitatewhat is
good.b The one who doesgood originates with God.c Theone who does
bad has not seenGod.d 12 De·metri·us has beenwell-reported-on by

are bearing witness about him,and you know that the witness
wegive is true.
13 I had many things to writeyou, but I do not wish to go

JUDE 8-25 1638themselves over to gross sexu-al immorality and
pursued un-natural fleshly desires;a they areplaced before us as a
warning ex-ample by undergoing the judicialpunishment of
everlasting fire.b
8 Despite this, these men tooare indulging in dreams, defil-ing
the flesh, despising authori-ty, and speaking abusively ofglorious
ones.c 9 But when Mi-cha·eld the archangele had a dif-ference with
the Devil and wasdisputing about Moses’ body,f hedid not dare to
bring a judgmentagainst him in abusive terms, gbut said: “May
Jehovah rebukeyou.”h 10 But these men arespeaking abusively about
all thethings they really do not under-stand. i And in all the
things thatthey do understand by instinctlike unreasoning animals,
j theygo on corrupting themselves.
11 Too bad for them, for theyhave followed the path of Cainkand
have rushed into the erro-neous course of Balaaml for re-ward, and
they have perished inthe rebellious talkm of Korah!n12 These are
the rocks hiddenbelow water at your love feastsowhile they feast
with you, shep-herds who feed themselves with-out fear;p waterless
clouds car-ried here and there by thewind;q fruitless trees in late
au-tumn, having died twice andhaving been uprooted; 13 wildwaves
of the sea that cast up thefoam of their own shame; r starswith no
set course, for whichthe blackest darkness stands re-served
forever.s
14 Yes, the seventh one inline from Adam, Enoch, t
alsoprophesied about them when hesaid: “Look! Jehovah came withhis
holy myriadsu 15 to exe-cute judgment against all,v and to

convict all the ungodly concern-ing all their ungodly deeds
thatthey did in an ungodly way,and concerning all the
shockingthings that ungodly sinnersspoke against him.”a
16 These men are murmur-ers,b complainers about theirlot in
life, following their owndesires,c and their mouths makegrandiose
boasts, while they areflattering others for their ownbenefit.d
17 As for you, beloved ones, call to mind the sayings thathave
been previously spoken bythe apostles of our Lord Je-sus Christ,
18 how they usedto say to you: “In the last timethere will be
ridiculers, follow-ing their own desires for ungodlythings.”e 19
These are the oneswho cause divisions, f animalisticmen, not
having spirituality.20 But you, beloved ones, buildyourselves up
on your most holyfaith, and pray with holy spirit,g21 in order to
keep yourselves inGod’s love,h while you await themercy of our Lord
Jesus Christwith everlasting life in view.i22 Also, continue
showing mer-cy j to some who have doubts;k23 save them l by
snatching themout of the fire. But continueshowing mercy to others,
do-ing so with fear, while you hateeven the garment that has
beenstained by the flesh.m
24 Now to the one who is ableto guard you from stumbling andto
make you stand unblemishednin the sight of his glory withgreat
joy, 25 to the only Godour Savior through Jesus Christour Lord, be
glory, majesty, might, and authority for all pasteternity and now
and into alleternity. Amen.
