AMERICAN ALLIGATORS The southeastern United States is the only place in the world where alligators exist naturally. They are an important part of Florida’s natural history and an integral component of aquatic ecosystems. Alligators may be present in all fresh bodies of water and reside in the ponds at Osprey Junction Trailhead. Learn how to keep alligators and visitors safe by following these tips: • Do not approach or disturb alligators. Alligators can perceive movements as threatening, so stop until the alligator has moved back into the pond or turn around and walk in the opposite direction if you see one. • Always keep your pets leashed. • Do not feed alligators. • Be aware of baby alligators. Female alligators are never far from their hatchlings. WILDLIFE OBSERVATIONS While enjoying the park and The Legacy Trail, watch for native wildlife, such as gopher tortoise, snowy egret, tricolored heron, rattlesnake, banded water snake, bobcat and alligator. Remember to observe wildlife from a distance. ? Did you know?
