Greetings everyone, We’re a few weeks past the Oktoberfest, but I want to start this article by saying “THANK YOU!” to everyone that helped to make this year’s fest an outstanding event. The Fest Organizing Committee members worked hard for months before the fest to make sure the gears turned smoothly after a year without any fests. The people on the committee organize fest set-up, decorating, food prep, entrance gate, ticket sales, food service, cakes and dessert, beer, liquor, bar service, trash, morn- ing clean-up and putting everything away after its over. Hundreds of volunteers filled 500 slots to work during the event and five thousand folks came to enjoy the Gemütlichkeit. I personally ran into several German people that were in Lancaster County for their work; they said our fest was as authentic as any in their homeland. I want to call out two jobs, not mentioned on the list above, that don’t get the recognition that they deserve. The number of people needing a place to park is more than can fit on our property; thanks to the Honberger family for allowing us to use their field across from the Club and to the parking committee for the time spent making sure that people who attend have a place to park in a safe manner. I know directing traffic isn’t a lot of fun, but it is important and appreciated. Another area that is of particular importance for making this Oktoberfest superb, is the number of activities we have for the kinder. The Liederkranz is a family club and nothing showcases that fact better than the crafts and entertain- ment offered at our fests for our youngest attendees. Right now, each of these guests is proud to show friends a painted bird house; in a dozen years, they’ll be showing their new stein. Greetings everyone,
We’re a few weeks past the Oktoberfest, but I want to start this article
by saying “THANK YOU!” to everyone that helped to make this year’s
fest an outstanding event. The Fest Organizing Committee members
worked hard for months before the fest to make sure the gears turned
smoothly after a year without any fests. The people on the committee
organize fest set-up, decorating, food prep, entrance gate, ticket sales,
food service, cakes and dessert, beer, liquor, bar service, trash, morn-
ing clean-up and putting everything away after its over. Hundreds of volunteers filled 500 slots to work during the
event and five thousand folks came to enjoy the Gemütlichkeit. I personally ran into several German people that
were in Lancaster County for their work; they said our fest was as authentic as any in their homeland. I want to call
out two jobs, not mentioned on the list above, that don’t get the recognition that they deserve. The number of people
needing a place to park is more than can fit on our property; thanks to the Honberger family for allowing us to use
their field across from the Club and to the parking committee for the time spent making sure that people who attend
have a place to park in a safe manner. I know directing traffic isn’t a lot of fun, but it is important and appreciated.
Another area that is of particular importance for making this Oktoberfest superb, is the number of activities we have
for the kinder. The Liederkranz is a family club and nothing showcases that fact better than the crafts and entertain-
ment offered at our fests for our youngest attendees. Right now, each of these guests is proud to show friends a
painted bird house; in a dozen years, they’ll be showing their new stein. Please think about volunteering in one of
these areas during Christkindlmarkt or next year.
Luckily, here at the Liederkranz the Gemütlichkeit doesn’t end with Oktoberfest. There is a lot more on the way
throughout the fall. Look at all of the things you can do:
October 29 -Come in costume to the Kompass Rose Halloween party. November 5 - Sing Ein Prosit with the Alpenländers. 13 -Thank a veteran at the Military Ball. 20 - Appreciate the performances of numerous other Schuhplattler groups visiting our Club Stiftungsfest. 24 - Party with Randy Z on Thanksgiving Eve. (Cont from page 1) The Schuplattler Kindergruppe is having their annual Holiday Greens and Poinsettia fund-
raiser. There is an order form to mail-in or drop off at the Club included in this newsletter and in links on emails
and the website. Please support their effort. Unfortunately, due to Covid, the cookie bakers have decided not to proceed with the annual holiday cookie sales
again this year. Cookie sales is a fundraising operation of the Club’s Internal Grants Fund that supports youth
activities at the Club. If anyone wants to help by giving a donation that will certainly be appreciated. The organ-
izers hope to begin fundraising again next year with the annual Easter candy egg sales. As you read through this newsletter, please look at the ads. These advertisements provide a significant amount
of income to the Club which defrays the cost of publishing and mailing the newsletter. Please support the busi-
nesses placing ads; as most of them are members and many are going through their own challenges. As I look back over the past year, it’s a bit difficult to remember the fact that the first several months of 2021
were filled with Covid rules. We weren’t sure if we could hold normal events or return to Club dining. As guide-
lines were loosened in May, the Officers, Trustees and others quickly focused on Sommerfest. After that, Parrot
Fest and Oktoberfest were back on. Liederkranz Cultural Groups are all back in action. Regular entertainment
and trivia are being held. Club dining has returned with outstanding German items and other selections. Days
for dining will be expanded in the upcoming weeks. Thank you to everyone in helping meet and overcome the
challenges. Please take time to fill out your renewal form, (included in this newsletter) or to use our new online renewal op-
tion, which you will find on the membership page of the website and in weekly emails. Don’t forget, renewals
made or picked up at the Club prior to December 31 will receive a complimentary beverage chip.
I wish everyone a wonderful autumn season and thank you for your support and membership in this terrific Club!
Reservation and Dining Information: - Dining - To better prepare our service & kitchen staff, we welcome all dining notice via our on-line TableAgent site found on the dining page of the website and in weekly emails. This is especially important for groups larger than 8 people. Occasionally we will use SignUp Genius for special event reservations. We prefer use of these on-line sites over phone calls. - Volunteers - Please remember your servers and bartenders are volunteers of the Club and are not paid com-pensation for their work—please support them! - First Thursday Meetings - non-members must exit the Ballroom at the start of the monthly member meeting.

Before we soared full force into the busy Oktoberfest season of practices and perfor-
mances, Alleweil Jung (AJ) members were graciously invited to an evening of Gemut-
lichkeit with a picnic and pool gathering at the homes of Margaret & Henry Kuester and
Carolyn & Matt Santos. What a blessing to see those who were early members, and some the founding
members of Alleweil Jung, at the gathering 20 years after the group’s inception including Maria Fornoff,
Inga & Klaus Brunnengraeber, Paul and Norma O’Donnell and our hosts Margaret and Henry. And a
potential future member was present as well! I am sure our VP/Dance Instructor Carolyn will have
members Ty and Jess’s little Josie, who just started walking, toddling with our group as soon as she can
stay up past 8:00 PM for our practices. From young to not so young – it was a fun evening. (If you were
anywhere in the vicinity of the pool, you were wet). AJ founders Doris and Less Blouin would be happy
to see their vision of being Forever Young (Alleweil Jung) continue through enjoyable group dancing with fun and laughter.
A thank you to AJ member CJ Martin and his team for carrying a cabinet full of our archives and music to the upper floor. The
key was on the West Shore and the rains were not waiting for it to be transported to Lancaster. We are fortunate to still have our
memories through photos and our recorded music to perform at Oktoberfest. As I thank so many of the cultural group members, trustees and LLK members who contributed to the success of Oktoberfest, I
would also like to thank our group for the tremendous amount of volunteer hours. It seemed that everywhere I turned, an AJ
member was volunteering one of many shifts. Carolyn was recognized at the recent membership meeting for her contribution
that helps to set our Oktoberfest apart from others – the Kinder Crafts. She provides education along with two full days of crafts
and this year initiated the first annual poster contest. All of the volunteering was in addition to performing and teaching some par-
ticipation dances to attendees. AJ will have performed more weekends than not during the month of October. We are fortunate to work with the Alpenlaenders
as they invite us to join them in some of their performances. AJ performed with this band for two shows for the Pennsylvania Re-
naissance Fair’s Oktoberfest themed weekend. We enjoy branching out with these opportunities to demonstrate the rich heritage
of the German Culture through dance. After this writing, we will have also performed two more events with the Alpenlaenders:
The Knights of Columbus Oktoberfest in West Grove, PA as well as an Oktoberfest in Wilmington Delaware. And of course, what is Christmas season without Christkindlmarkt! AJ will be contributing to the Linglestown event (Saturday De-
cember 11) by performing two shows, and the Lancaster Liederkranz (Sunday December 12) event with performances and
wares. Look for our stand with Kissing Balls made from fresh greens. As we continue with our 20
th year celebration of Alleweil Jung, a thank you to George Grab, our very own Lancaster Liederkranz
club photographer, for taking time to share his talent by taking a group photo which he beautifully mated and framed. Below, are
our current members of Alleweil Jung. I am very proud of this group and very much treasure our friendships.

The Volunteers Behind the Scenes
Did you know that many club members show up to set-up, decorate, and prepare food days before a fest?
Last newsletter issue I did an article on food preparation before Sommerfest.
In this issue I would like to do an article on the volunteers that are here for set-up, decorating, beer and food prepa-
ration for Oktoberfest. Under the direction of John Blank, Jeff Munster, Bunky Perko, and Joe Eckenrode, over 65 member volunteers set
the stage for our Oktoberfest as well as tear down after the fest. Under the direction of Lisa Dymond, another 15 member volunteers provided all the decorations for the fest. Of course we can not leave out all the food and beer preparation under the direction of Matt Trout (see Matt’s arti-
cle page 4), Glenn Yanos, and Renate McEiheny before the fest. Yes, there are many, many volunteers for club functions every day. Some are out in the open and some behind the
scenes. Below are some of the many pictures taken by George Grab. Photo selection for this article are the fest
front end.
Due to printing limitations, this page is only in our online copy. John Northup, Newsletter Editor
