The Jolly Postman has a very busy job, delivering cards and letters to various fairy-tale characters. He has a letter of apology for the three bears from Goldilocks, a postcard from Jack for the Giant, a solicitor’s letter on behalf of Little Red Riding-Hood to the wolf who ate Grandma, and so on. Use this fun activity pack alongside books The Jolly Postman, The Jolly Christmas Postman and The Jolly Pocket Postman to promote talking and writing in your class. Resources: Postcard templates and character sheet Guidelines: Print off the A4 postcard templates and divide in half to create A5 postcards. Ask the children to decide on a question they would like to ask their favourite fairy-tale character from The Jolly Postman and write it on the postcard. They can write independently or in small guided groups, depending on their writing ability. They can decorate the front of the postcard by drawing their own picture or cutting out and sticking on images from the character sheet. Extend the activity: Read out some of the questions so the class can discuss possible answers Make a display of the postcards Role play post office workers to sort and distribute the postcards Hot seat the fairy-tale characters Make a postbox for children to post their postcards
