Background

• ICAS was founded by Theodore von Karman inthe mid-fifties as a non-government not-for-profitscientific organization to encourage the freeinternational exchange of information onaeronautical research and technology

• ICAS currently serves as the only internationalsupport organization to representativeaeronautical engineering professional societies, affiliated societies, and associated organizationsand their members in 33 countries

Governance

• ICAS functions under three primary bodies– General Assembly (meets biennially)– Executive Committee (meets at least twice each year)– Program Committee (meets annually)

• The Executive Committee provides the administrativecontinuity and direction supported by:– Full-time Secretariat– Finance Subcommittee– Strategic Planning Subcommittee– Honors and Awards Subcommittee– External Relations Subcommittee– Membership Subcommittee

Extract from ICAS – CEAS Agreement

• The objectives of this agreement are to provide a platform for futureco-op-oration between CEAS and ICAS and to ensure that, where theopportunity exists, the two organisations support each other.

• Co-operation will entail the exchange of information on futureprogramme plans, the exercise of best endeavours by bothorganisations to minimise conflicts and, where appropriate, thepromotion of each others activities and publications. The co-operationmay in future be expanded to include other activities such as jointsponsorship of conferences and special events, joint honours andawards etc.
