Aptly called ‘Armani Roca’, the contemporary collection is an admirable project that gives special emphasis to the concept of luxury like never before. It offers a high degree of sophistication and practical solutions in order to meet the requirements of the new metropolitan lifestyle. Comprising of diverse sections, the collection includes a ‘Beauty’ area which comprises of extra-fl at washbasins, matching faucets and spacious storage cabinets. Its ‘Wellness Bath’ area, as the name suggests, is a personal space where one can relax and wind down. The bath tub is spacious and is fi tted with a unique feature - an innovative aperture which is used to fi ll the tub with water. It also provides tactile controls which make it possible to enjoy a bubble bath or an aquatic

chromo therapy session. The single control system and thermostatic mixer in the ‘Wellness Shower’ area enables the user to change dimensions. This means that the user can make use of the rain shower, cascade spout, swiveling jets or even the hand shower.

Sanitary ware occupies an important place in powder rooms; the ‘Basic Needs’ area has been crafted with perfection and its main highlights are its sanitary ware elements which are produced from a single piece and are suspended from the wall supported by hidden brackets; concealed storage cabinets are also a part of this area . The Armani Roca collection has certainly carved a different niche for itself in the consumers’ mind where luxury has been well defi ned through its diverse and stylish sections.Contact: web: www.armaniroca.com

Somany Ceramics Ltd, the Indian ceramics tile major has entered has into a manufacturing and

distribution arrangement with a leading ceramic tile manufacturer from Italy - IRIS Ceramiche and FMG (Fiorano Modenese-MO) of the GranitiFiandre Group (Castellarano-RE).

T h e c o m p a n y r e c e n t l y announced that Fiandre will look at a distribution arrangement with

Somany Ceramics to sell ‘Active Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic’ products in India capitalising on Somany Ceramics’ 1400 strong distribution network and brand equity.

International tests have confi rmed that Active tiles are self cleaning as they are able to degrade the nitrogen oxides, thus allowing for an improvement of air quality.

It is estimated that a 1,000 sq. metre surface area of Active, radiated by sunlight or any other electric source of light, has an effect equal to that of 20 timber trees on the reduction of nitrogen oxides. Active tiles are also capable of reacting with the most common air pollutant molecules and hence provide antibacterial properties to the material.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abhishek Somany, JMD Somany Ceramics Limited said, “This association with IRIS Ceramiche & GranitiFiandre Group further strengthens our motto of innovation and leadership which Somany Ceramics stands for. After VC 50, we bring to you Active as a result of our

commitment to bringing world class products to the Indian customer. We look forward to working with these Italian brands and strengthening this alliance.”

The Olympic stadium which will play host to the 2012 London Olympics was

designed by the firm Populous, (HOK Sport Venue Event was its previous corporate name), and completed last year. This unique 80,000 seat stadium will be the centre-piece for the 2012 games and will play host to the opening and closing ceremonies and other athletic events. After the games, the creatively designed venue is likely to be transformed into a new home for athletes, combined with other sporting, community and educational uses.

The emphasis of the design has been on minimising the quantity of material, whilst still producing the required performance. By designing a lean, compact and lightweight stadium, the amount of materials used, and the associated embodied energy have been significantly reduced. The approach of the design fi rm has been to allow most of the upper part of the stadium to be dismantled and passed on to the host city of the 2016 Olympic Games!

This marks a completely new approach to stadium construction and the Olympic Games that seek to bring more sustainable ideas into the arena. The stadium is designed to have a permanent capacity of 25,000 seats and an additional

55,000 seats that are demountable. A sunken bowl has been built into the ground for the fi eld of play and the permanent seating placed at a lower level is designed to bring spectators closer to the action.

The stadium has a cable supported roof which stretches 28 metres the whole way around the stadium, providing cover for two thirds of spectators. While a fabric curtain wraps around the stadium structure acting as additional protection and shelter for spectators. The stadium also incorporates a unique set of pods - here facilities such as catering and merchandising will be grouped into these self-contained structures, adding to the spectator experience around the access level

of the stadium. This stadium will complement

the other great stadiums that London now has - Wembley, the Emirates and the new development at Twickenham. Chief architect Rod Sheard of HoK Sport commented that the stadium would make a big impact. “This is not a stadium that’s going to be screaming from the rooftops that it’s bigger and more spectacular,” he said. “This is just a

cleverer building. This is a cleverer solution.”

The stadium will act as a beacon symbolising the extraordinary transformation and regeneration of East London and will become a permanent legacy of the city. The cutting edge design focused on sustainability will be a stunning backdrop to the games and is likely to become synonymous with the world sporting spectacle.

A New Blueprint For Olympic StadiumsDesigned by the firm Populous, the London Olympic stadium has sustainability at its core; the revolutionary design allows for a large part of the stadium to be completely dismantled and reused at another venue!
