We have had lots of positive feedback about the approach we are taking with our home learning, with families welcoming the choice that they have with the subjects and activities so they can match their child’s home learning to their personal circumstances. Please remember that there are examples of timetables on the website, which you can adapt for your child, along with additional resources to support you during this time. The information below is from your child’s year group teachers outlining work that your child could complete over the next two weeks (Monday 4 th May – Friday 15 th May). The pack follows the same format as the last pack, ensuring full coverage across the curriculum. Teachers are starting to make links to resources from BBC and Oak National Academy, both endorsed by the governement and Havering LA, where they feel that these lessons will enhance our children’s learning. In order to help you and your child to stay connected to our school community, we strongly encourage you to set up a family Twitter account and follow Branfil (@BranfilPrimary). Staff are regularly posting information and challenges which you can respond to if you would like to. I have so enjoyed seeing the photos and films of the children responding to the tweets. Teachers would also love you to contact them by email each week to share some of the home learning that your child has been doing. I am sure that your child will love getting some feedback from their teacher and hopefully it will act as an additional incentive for them to complete some home learning. Dear parents and carers,

HOME LEARNING DURING CLOSURE PERIOD: Year 2 Pack 3

I hope that you and your child enjoyed some of the activities in the last home learning pack. We have had lots of

positive feedback about the approach we are taking with our home learning, with families welcoming the choice

that they have with the subjects and activities so they can match their child’s home learning to their personal

circumstances. Please remember that there are examples of timetables on the website, which you can adapt for

your child, along with additional resources to support you during this time.

The information below is from your child’s year group teachers outlining work that your child could complete

over the next two weeks (Monday 4th May – Friday 15th May). The pack follows the same format as the last pack,

ensuring full coverage across the curriculum. Teachers are starting to make links to resources from BBC and Oak

National Academy, both endorsed by the governement and Havering LA, where they feel that these lessons will

enhance our children’s learning.

In order to help you and your child to stay connected to our school community, we strongly encourage you to

set up a family Twitter account and follow Branfil (@BranfilPrimary). Staff are regularly posting information and

challenges which you can respond to if you would like to. I have so enjoyed seeing the photos and films of the

children responding to the tweets.

Teachers would also love you to contact them by email each week to share some of the home learning that your

child has been doing. I am sure that your child will love getting some feedback from their teacher and hopefully

it will act as an additional incentive for them to complete some home learning. Please email:

BRITISH

VALUES

VE Day 2020

Friday 8 May is the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe, when the nation will join together to

commemorate the service and sacrifice of the WWII generation then and now.

It will be an opportunity for us all to remember the enormous sacrifices that were made at home

and abroad and to ‘celebrate’ as people did 75 years ago, the arrival of peace in Europe.

It would be lovely if you were to explore VE Day together with your family and then send your

work to your year group email. We can then share your work on Twitter and on our school

website so Branfil can say, “To those who gave so much, we thank you.”

Some ideas but we are sure you will come up with some brilliant ones of your own:

‘Talk the talk’ of a great man. Act out Winston Churchill’s iconic speech. You can find the transcript here.

Recreate the nationwide celebrations of 1945 in your lounge and even play some wartime tunes!

Make some bunting and decorate your house

Make a newspaper front page

Design a medal

Make a WW2 recipe

Tom Moore – do we need to say more!

MATHS White Rose Maths

www.whiterosemaths.com/homelearning

We will now be using White Rose for your daily maths lessons. We use the White Rose Maths

scheme alongside Power Maths in school. The White Rose Maths Team prepares a series of five

maths lessons for each year group from Reception to Year 6 each week. Every lesson comes with

a short video showing you clearly and simply how to help your child to complete the activity

successfully. Click on the link above and follow the four steps below:

1. Click on the set of lessons for your child’s year group. 2. Watch the video (either on your own or with your child). 3. Find a calm space where your child can work for about 20-30 minutes. 4. Use the video guidance to support your child as they work through a lesson. 5. Answers are available on the website to check with your child

Update:

White Rose has set out a 12-week learning plan that means children can:

make sure they understand the main concepts they need for their work next year cover any new learning that they have not yet have done in school.

The 12-week plan

The plan shows the work that children will cover, week by week.

Some of the above differs a little from the BBC Bitesize plan – but only for the first two weeks. From Week 3 onwards, their plans run in line with each other.

This means that every day, there’s a learning video on the White Rose web page to watch and a link to that day’s BBC Bitesize page for more information and even more lesson content.

can. You could measure using cm, inches, metres, hands, feet, cubes or teddy bears. Can

you think of any other way to measure length?

Use a tape measure to measure your height against a wall. Can you now measure some

of your soft toys to see how long they are? What is your smallest toy? What is your

longest toy? Can you line your toys up in height order? Are any of the toys as tall as you

or anyone else in your family?

Draw some straight lines using a ruler, all with different lengths. Estimate how many

LEGO bricks it will take to cover the line. Now, use the LEGO bricks to cover the line and

see if you were right! Once you have finished, measure each line in cm’s using a ruler.

Is the measurement different to your LEGO bricks measurement? Why/why not?
