Daeganuidae (大簡儀臺, an alternative, namely “Ganuidae”) was an Royal Astronomical
Observatory which was built between 1433~1434 (15~16th year of King Sejong Era) and
maintained until the end period of Joseon (朝鮮) Dynasty. According to <Ganuidaegi (簡儀臺記, a records of Ganuidae)> in『Sejongsillok (世宗實錄, Joseon Dynasty Chronicles of King
Sejong Era)』, Daeganuidae construction project was not just a building construction project
but a grand scale national project for instruction of several buildings and astronomical
instruments. The mentioned buildings and astronomical instruments in Sejongsillok are
Daeganui (大簡儀, simplified armillary sphere) and Daeganuidae (tower for Daeganui),
Ilseongjungsiui (日星定時儀, sun-and-star time determining instrument) and Sojungsiui (小定時儀, compact Ilseongjungsiui), Dongpyo (銅表, copper gnomon) and Gyupyo (圭表, gnomon),
Honui (渾儀, armillary sphere), Honsang (渾象, celestial globe) and Honuihonsanggak (渾儀渾象閣, building for Honui and Honsang), Jagyeongnu (自擊漏, striking clepsydra) and
Borugak (報漏閣, building for Jagyeongnu), Heumgyeonggaknu (欽敬閣漏) and
Heumgyeonggak (欽敬閣), Angbuilgu (仰釜日晷, hemispherical sundial) and several sundials,
Hangnu (行漏, portable clepsydra), Juchuck (周尺, standard gauge of length) and so on.
Until now researches and projects which were related with Daeganuidae are focused
on only buildings or instruments individually, therefore, in this study, we’ll fulfill more
specific research concerned about connection with buildings and instruments.

(Chalres
(Historia Coelestis Britannica)
