Hey Huskeys!

Samantha Zometa

Exec. Assistant

Hello my name is Samantha Marie Zometa and I am a proud Hawk from Arroyo Valley High School (AVHS) that will be a junior for the 2012-2013 school year! First of all I want to serve my fellow Key Clubbers as Vice-President of AVHS Key Club. In addition I want to make sure to learn, mentor my peers, abide by the rules and carry out my re-sponsibilities as member of the Division Leadership Team. I have many plans for the current term, but let me focus on the top 3, they are as follows: 1) have a friendly competition among the schools in D36W in order to fundraise money to save more lives while supporting the ELIMINATE Project & Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP), 2) increase our key club membership as well as motivate the current members to be more active in service even if they surpass the 50 hours bracket and 3) have more activities that will allow for our division to bond with others in our division so that we learn and borrow ideas from each other this will strengthen our division. Lastly I am proud to serve the Huskeys on the Division Leadership Team this is truly a wonderful opportunity for me to give back to my community and learn new skills that will make me a better leader. I am aware that we have family and school commitments, but it can be done if we lead by example! Thanks, Samantha

Exec. Assistant

"I FEEL GOOD, OHH I FEEL SO GOOD! UGH! I FEEL FINE ALL OF THE TIME! ABOOGA, ABOOGA, ABOOGA-BOOGA-BOOGA!" I have been screaming my lungs out to this cheer for the past two years. Why? Key Club. That's why. Key Club is the soul and spirit of all high schools in the D36 West division. My name is Arturo Rodri-guez and I am extremely excited and overwhelmed to be apart of the Huskeys Division Leadership Team! I will be a senior at Bloomington High the upcom-ing school year. Not only will I be Senior Class President, but MOST IM-PORTANTLY I will be Vice-President for my schools Key Club chapter. I look forward to not only helping my school's chapter grow but help D36West grow into a stronger and dedicated divi-sion. I have no doubt that this year, that spirit stick at Fall Rally belongs to us and only us! I will make sure, along with Art and the other Executive Assistants, that we try our best to bring that spirit stick to its rightful owners! I also am excited to help D36W and every single member of the division feel included in this grand family that we have before us. I wish to see our division grow into some-thing that it has never been. I just ask that all Huskeys be ready to have an AMAZING and FUN-FILLED YEAR!

Allan Icarangal

Exec. Assistant

Hello, my name is Allan Jo-seph Soleta Icarangal Jr. I’m 15 years old and I’m from Ri-alto. I am going to be a junior this year at Wilma Amina Carter High school. What I want to see happen this term is more of helping our whole community. I want to see eve-ry Key club active in different activities throughout this year. I love helping people and it just makes everything feel worthwhile when seeing a person smile knowing I helped them. And I’m very thrilled to have the oppor-tunity to be able to serve the Husky’s on this year’s divi-sion leadership term!

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Mock rock pic

Mock rock pic

There are many ways to fundraise, and get involved in your community. Whether it’s raising money for a chari-ty, an organization, or for your Key Club, there’s no limit to what you can do! Some of the events that are pictured here are Colton High’s Mock Rock, and A.B. Miller’s Special Olympics. Your club should be in contact with your sponsoring Kiwanis Club to find out about service events that they are hosting to help out. Also, invite them to your meetings/events as well!

The Kiwanis Club of Fontana held a Special Olympics of their own on April 14th, with the help of their fellow Key Clubs from the area, in-cluding A.B. Miller. Having a Special Olympics type event at your school is a great way to get your club involved in the community, and a great way to start off the term. As many who have participated will tell you, it is a very rewarding experience.

Get Involved!

Special Olympic pic

What is Mock Rock? It’s a great fund-raising opportunity you can do, while having a blast! To win clubs/teachers must choose one rock song which is most important and meaningful to your club and preform it on stage with a max-imum of 6 performers per club. Their performance will not be their club mem-ber’s vocals, but one or more will lip sync to their song and others will “play the instruments”. Props (including: Fake or real instruments, apparel, accessories, etc.) will be up to the members!

A prize may be offered to the win-ner, for example Colton Key Club offered $100. Each performance should be judged by 3 individuals, and should be based on energy, preparation, creativity, etc. This pro-ject was very successful for Colton Key Club, and brought in almost $200! If your club is looking for a fun way to raise money for your club, this is the project for you!

What are the Special Olympics? The Special Olympics aims at providing year round training and competi-tions in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This pro-gram helps build physical fitness, courage, and stronger bonds be-tween friends and family.

Clubs of the Month...

Got a shirt design? That’s right Huskeys, it’s that time again. With a new year, and a new term, comes a new design for our divisional shirts. What does that mean? That means we want you to create a design that could possibly be the next Division 36 West Huskey shirt! As our LTG says, “Get those creative juices flowing!” If you’ve got a design send it to any of our divi-sion board members!

Key Club Pledge
