At the beginning of the trailer, it has already given the audience an enigma of a character in a dangerous situation making the audience question ‘What is happening?’.

It then changed into a black screen with a voice over of the character saying ‘Oh my God’. This creates a twist of the movie already confusing the audience which enables them to carry on watching the trailer to find out what the story is really about.

From this clip, the sound changed from a sharp loud noise to a quite and calm tone while the character in the trailer was trying to escape. This again creates an enigma to its audience making them wonder what is happening.

The quite and calm sound stopped as if it’s being rewind which connotes the idea that the point of equilibrium in this scene is over and a disruption is about to occur.

The institutional logos has been edited to fit the story of the movie instead of its genre (The movie starts from the past to the present)

This intertitle informs the audience that what they are about to witness is just the beginning of the story which creates suspense and mystery.

We know that this scene shows the point of realisation because of the expression these character(s) are showing.

Most of the scenes in this trailer are going backwards starting from the end to the beginning which is called non-linear. This means that the movie/ the trailer itself is not in order.

The use of dark lighting around the woman’s face connotes the danger that is about to happen to the woman.

The title of this movie has been edited from ‘The House At The end of the Street’ to ‘HATES’ which creates an enigma to its audience. After this intertitle, they have shown us a short clip of the two main characters of the movie. This may suggest that whoever lives in that house hates them, which again enables it’s audience to question themselves and watch the film to find out why.

Teaser trailer analysis

The point of Equilibrium lasts for 28 seconds in the trailer but also creates strange noises in the background which creates tension to its audience.

Throughout the trailer, it uses a low volume sound to keep the equilibrium but is disrupted at some point together with a quick shot of an eye and a house which connotes the idea of her being watched.

They have used a lot of special effects on the lighting which suggests that something unnatural and distorted is in the room.

From this shot, this places the audience into the character’s point of view which gives us the mutual feeling of what it is like to be in the same situation.

Focusing on the back of the character’s head while the surrounding is blurred creates suspense to its audience as they won’t know what will happen.

This is where the point of realisation that a disruption will occur starts. They have captured a belt with a chain on it which implies to its audience that the character is in danger.

This is the scene where the disruption occurred. They have removed the non-diegetic sound then put it back on right after the character has been attacked which keeps the suspense in the trailer going.

They’ve left an enigma for the audience in the end which allows them to find out more about the movie.

Comparing the Full and Teaser trailer

The big difference of the two is that the full trailer has more information about the movie’s plot whereas the teaser trailer keeps its audience from wondering what it’s about.

The full trailer has created more enigmas to its audience along with voiceovers of the characters from the movie itself.
