First to record.

• The first people to record measurements were the Egyptians.

• They used levels and sun-dials in the construction of huge stone temples and monuments

What was the foot based on

• The foot was based on the length of one worker.

• The entire span of his body.

Why did they create the metric system?

• The French Academy of Science created the Metric system because it was a necessity at the time.

• Due to exploration and arcitechual needs .

What was the treaty of meter?• The treaty of meter was was a agreement created to

preserve the metric system.

These organizations helped –

the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM)

the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM);

International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM).

Meter refinement 1791

The French Academy of Sciences decided in 1791 that the meter would be defined by the dimensions of the planet earth.

It used the meridian line on the equator as an example.

The standard meter refinement

• On October 20, 1983, the meter was officially redefined as the distance traveled by light in a vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second.

• A pair of electric (red) and magnetic (blue) fields, propagating together as an electromagnetic wave in the direction indicated by the arrow at the speed of light.

• It was a law passed by Congress that allowed the use of the metric system within the United States.

Its important because it allows us to use the numbers and measurements we do .
