It was a fun day. I also want to thank our teacher Terry Holte, she is such a talented artist, look for her designs in the Painting World magazine. One of the outcomes of this event was the desire to update the sound system again, so with the board’s approval, I hopefully found a system that should work. Let me know what you think as Carol will use it in April. Next month’s featured piece looks to be a great combina- tion of paint and pencil. Carol Ganzi shared with me the background can be any color. She has two examples in this month’s newsletter (page 2), so get creative! I will not be at this paint-in as my granddaughter is dancing in the Dis- neyland parade that day, can’t miss that. Thank you to Ra- mona and Kenna who has volunteered to get the equipment set up. A special thanks to Nina Pierson for volunteering to host this month’s raffle. She has worked hard to give everyone opportunities to win fabulous prizes. Linda Camp volun- teered for May, yeah!!! We are looking for June and July volunteers. Let me know if you are interested. I also want to thank Marilyn Dixon for all her efforts in providing great lunches. UPCOMING CLASSES & EVENTS
“Cockle-Doodle-Do” with Carol Ganzi Date: Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Place: San Marcos Mobile Estates, club house (aka: Sue’s place)
Class Fee: $25.00 payable in advance Surface: 12” x 12” artboard Mediums: Acrylic Paint, Colored Pencil, Marker
Notes: For those who may not want to purchase or use colored pencils, Carol will bring paint so that the yellow and red can be floated in. She does recommend that you still bring a white or the cloud blue; those spaces are pretty small and easier to get to with a pencil. Everyone should also bring a soft graphite pencil. The surface - the most common brand of the “artists boards” is MONA LISA/SPEEDBALL. Carol usually gets hers at Michaels. However, the 12x12 size is rarely in stock. She likes them because they are already coated with white gesso and are ready to go. She has found them at Dick Blick (www.dickblick.com) Item #13612-1212 Studio Flat Panel 12x12 about $7.50 Item #13618-1212 Studio Flat Panel 12x12 $32.45 for a dozen ($2.71 each)
Any 12x12 Masonite or wood panel will work but will need to be base painted white before adding the background colors. You can also use an actual canvas but she finds the tangling and penciling more difficult on canvas because it has no back support. Lower photo at left: Here is an idea for fabric instead of wood surface. Roost-er is transferred to fabric then basecoated per prep instructions. When dry, the detail pattern is transferred to be ready for class.
“Seashells” Date: Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Place: San Marcos Mobile Estates, club house (aka:
Sue’s place)
Class Fee: $25.00 payable in advance Surface: Four (4) Box Canvases each 6” x 6” One (1) 10” x 20” Canvas (Burlap Optional) Or Surface of your choice

SDP NEWS
Everyone should have received their SDP membership card by now. They were sent via e-mail to most members. If you don't have e-mail, the card was sent by US Mail. Either way, they all mailed in February, so if you have not received your 2017 membership card you should contact Tanya Horn immediately. Tanya @decorativepainters.org 312-269-9300 x 105 If you are not attending the SDP Conference in Daytona this year, you can still vote for the officers (term June 2017-2018). The slate of officers, information on each candidate, a ballot, and mail in instructions are available on page 15 of the Spring, 2017 issue of the Decorative Painter. This is your opportunity to have a voice on the future of SDP. Carol Ganzi

PHP General Meeting March 11, 2017
A General Meeting of the Palomar Heritage Painters was held March 11, 2017, in the meeting center at San Marcos Mobile Home Estates. The meeting was called to order at 12:25 p.m. by President Linda Silvasy. MINUTES: A motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, as published in the newsletter, was made by Karen Ortman, seconded by Ramona Jacobs, and approved. PROGRAMS: Renee Molloy reported that patterns for upcoming Paint-Ins are now available for the months of April, May, and June, for those who sign up and have paid. She also mentioned that class calen-dars are now available for all PHP members, as well as the 2017 membership rosters. SEMINARS: Karen Ortman, Charlotte Hicks and Ramona Jacobs reported that the 3-day Willow Wolfe seminar will be October 27, 28, and 29. There will be 3 different projects: one with Hummingbirds, one with a Gerbera Daisy, and the 3rd project is still being worked on, possibly Baby Birds. The cost for this seminar has not been determined yet, but may be in the area of $225. Princeton Brush Company will be covering travel costs for Willow Wolfe. SAN DIEGO COUNTY FAIR: Charlotte Hicks reported that the theme for the 2017 fair is "Where the West is Fun." She encouraged PHP members to submit entries; the deadline to register is May 5. Your piece(s) must be delivered to the fair by May 15 and 16. MEMBERSHIP: Sheila Elliott reported that PHP has 2 new members, Lorean Weng and Paula Hin-kley. PHP membership total is 71. SUNSHINE: Lorraine Baumann had no news to report this month. TREASURER: Marilyn Dixon reported that she will be calling members to bring food for April's Paint-In. Linda Silvasy mentioned that the Raffles each month are a source of income for the club; currently, we have different members taking turns each month for the Raffles. We have members taking care of Raffles for the months of April and May, but will need someone to do the Raffles for June and following months. OTHER: Joyce Hatch mentioned that San Diego Brush Whackers will be having a 2 day seminar taught by Maxine Thomas, to be held May 19 and 20, if anyone is interested in signing up for it. Linda Silvasy men-tioned that voting for SDP is approaching, and that you can go online to vote. Outreach: Barbara Nolan is asking for fabric donations to crochet small throw rugs for her church. She will take cotton or cotton blend fabric, but it should be about a yard, and she can use old or new sheets. Fabric may be brought to paint-ins if you wish to donate. Barbara Bank moved to adjourn the meeting at 12:37 p.m., seconded by Onya Tolmasoff. Respectfully submitted, Linda Camp, Secretary
