The Heather Heights Herald Bennett’s Blog By Mr. Brian R. Bennett, Principal June 2016 THE HEATHER HEIGHTS HERALD As another school year comes to a close, it is time to reflect back on many of the events of the past year. It has been a very exciting and productive year filled with many accomplishments for our students and staff. Our students and staff have worked very hard this year to continue to improve student achievement in all areas of the curriculum. And, many exciting events including Literacy Night, STEM Night, the Show Choir Canada Competition, Track and Field at Birchmount Stadium, the HH and VMA Festive Concerts, the VMA Spring Concert, the Heather Heights Choir and band programmes and Product Night, but to name a few. Recently, on Saturday May 28th, our Ben Heppner School Council along with parent members from the Heather Heights School Council organized and ran a very successful Community Day. The weather was perfect and it was so nice to see many of our students and their families come out and enjoy the event. It was a wonderful day for bringing our to school communities together! Thank you to the Heather Heights and Ben Heppner School Councils for leading this annual tradition and for all of the incredible support, time and energy from the parents of both schools. Thank you to all parent members of our school councils for a very successful school year! I look forward to a new and exciting upcoming year working with our HH SAC and VMA SAC. I encourage and invite parents to attend and participate in our monthly meetings. It is a wonderful way to support our students and to become engaged in our school community!I would also like to say “thank you” to our parent volunteers who have worked in our school this past year. Volunteerism is such an important and worthwhile activity and the staff and students appreci- ate their efforts very much. Without the support of volunteers, it would be very difficult to offer many of the class- room programmes and school activities such as Scientist in the Classroom and the many field trip excursions as well as our daily Snack programme. It is with sadness that I bid farewell to the following staff members who will be continuing their careers down a new path. I would like to wish all the best to Ms. Ania Kniat who has worked the past 6 years as an ECE in our Kinder- garten Room 101, Mr. Paul Corvo who has been our Grade 4/5 teacher at Heather Heights, Madame Williams who has been the French teacher at the VMA and, and last but not least, Mr. Mark Boyko who has been a key player in building the music programme at the Ben Heppner Academy. I would also like to wish Ms. Hammouth-Jones all the best as she embarks upon a new career...retirement! After 29 years of dedicated service and supporting children, Ms. Hammouth-Jones is beginning a new chapter in her life. All of you will be dearly missed by staff and students. On behalf of our staff, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. On behalf of the staff, I would like to wish all of our Heather Heights’ Grade 6 Graduates and our Grade 8 VMA Graduates good luck and continued success as they head off to the Intermediate grades and High School. The staff, in partnership with our parents, has done an excellent job in preparing our Graduates for the future, and I know that they will meet their challenges with much confidence and success! I would also like to acknowledge and thank all of my staff for a very exciting and successful school year with our students. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our parents and families for your continuous support of our students, programmes and school. It is an absolute pleasure and delight to work with, and to serve you and your children. Have a wonderful, safe summer with your family and friends!
