The President’s Flights of Fancy by Dave Herreid
Ah Minnesota, with its theater of seasons! Is
the curtain starting to fall on this year’s version
of winter? I’m experienced enough to know it
may still snow, blow, and freeze. But on a
sunny day with street curbs (and other things)
emerging from the snow banks, spring feels
close. Other clues abound: the catalogues in
the mail, the Twins in spring training, and my
mind wandering off to car stuff that I really
need to do. Time to get serious about the
upcoming driving season.
Car and driver both need to be considered.
The car I don’t worry about, but me? A
certain MAHC mentor has suggested I
practice yoga, to tune my body as one would
tune a car. To this end I understand that all
the club racers do yoga daily. So, enter my
yoga-inclined kids, with a twinkle in their eyes.
They have taught me the “downward dog,”
the “upward rat” and the “wounded pride.” I
have noted they constantly correct my form
until it hurts and I appear prostate before
them. To this they say, “Good, now do it ten
times.” I hope that by the time the first
dandelion blooms I will be in fit form.
So to my way of thinking all that is left is to
plan my driving schedule, attempting to
accommodate as many MAHC events as
possible. I hope that your spring preparations
are proceeding smoothly too—that your car
and driver are tuned to the upcoming season,
and that we all will share many a good laugh
somewhere down the road.
Wing It!

The Presidents Informal Evening by Liz Stadther for Dave Hatzung
Mr. President, Dave Herreid, started the meeting
with a recap of the tech session at Jeff Lumbard’s.
Jeff focused on fitting body panels on a 1956 100-
4, a project that is expanding to include an
engine rebuild. Congratulations to Jeff who will
soon have more time for car projects due to his
impending retirement.
Dave introduced guests Alan and Jennie
Anderson, who currently have an MG, and
Timothy Becker, proud owner of a 3000 with racing
heritage. The 3000 was a barn find that required
14 hours for removal from said barn. Welcome
Alan, Jennie and Timothy!
Dave noted that VP Dave Hatzung is on a mission
to Mexico to find Tom Politiski and the Ronnings.
Reports
Jim Kriz reported that the club now has 76
members. People can join any time, though
it’s probably too late to be listed in the
national club roster.
Treasurer Steve Greenway reported that all is
well with our finances and the balance was
up a little from the banquet.
Jeff Johnk encouraged people to peruse the
library of videos and let him know if they take
out or return any.
New nametags are in per nametag meister
Greg Willodson.
National delegate Eileen Wetzel’s report was
brief and to the point: “Re-up!”
Suzanne Willodson, as our liaison to the
InterMarque group, mentioned that we need
to send them a check for the upcoming
InterMarque Spring Kick-off.
Suzanne and Greg brought club regalia to the
meeting for all to admire and buy.
Upcoming Events
Kim and Steve Rixen’s Pub Party on Sunday,
February 21 at 2 PM: The event is similar to the
wine parties they have held. Bring pub grub or
appetizers and beer (or wine).
Second Harvest Heartland Volunteer Event on
Saturday, Feb. 27; arrive at 12:15 PM: We will
volunteer at the Golden Valley location to
pack food that is distributed to local food
shelves. Attendees agreed that we should
donate $350, with presidential approval. Let
Suzanne know, so she can provide a count to
Second Harvest. At 2:30 the group will retire to
Doolittle’s for refreshments. Directions and
RSVP information is in the newsletter.
PIE and the Hot Wheels Grand Prix on
Wednesday, March 2: Don’t miss this year’s
Grand Prix by Tom Hazen. Prep your cars or
borrow one at the event.
McQueen’s Tech Session to be held March 19
at Scott’s “very cool clubhouse” (per President
Dave): Scott said he and “Dr. Rixen” are
developing the topic. We heard unconfirmed
rumors of bloody Marys or mimosas.
Other Items
Steve Greenway didn’t get a couple of AH
emails. If you are aware of any problems,
please speak up. No one at the meeting
reported problems.
Dave will find the list of resources developed
for Lisa Culver’s tech session last year to be
published for all to use.
Greg Willodson is working to update the
calendar on the website.
Mr. President indicated that he and Daphne
are contemplating the idea of a club trip to
the historic Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in Mason
City, Iowa, which has been refurbished.
Dave recommended a video of the Bathurst
race in Australia. Jeff Lumbard talked about
Denis Welch’s amazing win there, outdriving
everyone on wire wheels and skinny tires.
The meeting ended and conversations continued.

Second Harvest Heartland Volunteer Event
Record-breaking temps well into the fifties welcomed 24 Healey Club
members and friends to Second Harvest Heartland in Golden Valley for
our third annual volunteer event.
Our group was in charge of repacking massive containers of hundreds
of pounds of rice into one-pound packs. These packs will be distributed
to food shelves throughout the metro area.
In addition, the Club made a $350 donation to Second Harvest, which is
the equivalent of over 1000 meals for a member of our community who
might otherwise go without.
Afterwards, we gathered at Doolittles to relax and enjoy refreshments
and bite to eat. Thank you all for participating in this event!

Road Trip for Readers #8 by Greg Lauser
On our second day on Vancouver Island we ventured
northwest to the Pacific Coast. It was a sunny, scenic
four-hour drive through mountains and around lakes
(see above) until we summited the final mountain and
drove down toward mist-shrouded Ucluelet and its
coastal twin town – Tofino. Both are fishing villages, and
we got a shot of a fishing boat at the pier in Ucluelet
harbor. After lunch there, we headed toward Tofino far
enough to snap a picture of the Pacific coastline. The
driftwood trees cast ashore there were neither as large
nor the surf as dramatic as along the Washington
Peninsula coastline. Then, it was time to retrace our
steps back to Victoria to pack for the next day’s ferry
ride to mainland British Columbia.
