The Committee conducted two meetings in August of 2016. The first meeting took place on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Cleaone Henrietta Creque Legislative Conference Room on St. John, where Committee mem- bers received an update on the reasons for limited St. Thom- as / St. John barge service and its impact on St. John resi- dents, businesses and the overall economy of St. John. The second meeting was held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Frits E. Lawaetz Legislative Conference Room on St. Croix, where Committee members considered Bill No. 31-0049—relating to mo- tor vehicles liability policies, providing for reduction in automobile insurance premiums for drivers 50 years of age and older who com- plete an approved accident prevention course, Bill No. 31-0132— requiring insurance carriers to provide liability insurance data to the Virgin Islands Bureau of Mo- tor Vehicles and for the Bu- reau to establish a motor ve- hicle liability insurance data- base, Bill No. 31-0329— requiring that the Department of Sports, Parks and Recrea- tion submit to the Legislature a listing of all vendor spaces and Bill No. 31-0173—extending buri- al death benefits to veterans who were domiciled outside of the Vir- gin Islands at their time of death. Bill No. 31-0329 was amended and forwarded to the Committee on Rules and Judiciary. Bill Nos. 31-0049, 31-0132 and 31-0173 were held in Committee for amendments. The Committee is scheduled to meet next on Wednesday, Septem- ber 21, 2016 in the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall on St. Thom- as to consider assigned bills. Committee Meetings Greetings fellow Virgin Islanders, My office staff and I continue to work hard on your behalf. We have been creating legislation, hosting committee and town meet- ings, participating in governmental and community events and advo- cating for the residents of the territory. As the term continues, I plan to focus on assisted living facilities, senior living communities, youth learn-to-swim education and other education, health, public safety and economic stimulus legislation. I am truly grateful to live in this community and feel privileged to serve my fellow Virgin Islanders as your senator.
