Questions of the Week November 3, 2019 Gospel

Jesus’ love transforms all people and all things!

Question for Children: Jesus showed that he loved Zacchaeus by having supper with him. How does Jesus show his love for you? Question for Youth: Jesus saw Zacchaeus as he was - mistakes and all. What masks, if any, do you hide behind so others won’t see who you really are? Who do you trust to see your true self? Question for Adults: Why do you suppose Jesus was so kind to Zacchaeus? What lesson do you draw from this reading regarding those who are considered “public sinners” today?

Shepherd’s Call

ADMINISTRATOR’S CORNER

November 3, 2019

As I get older the feast of All Souls means more and more to me. That’s true not just because my own death is drawing much closer but because each year I mourn more and more family and friends. Earlier this year my younger brother died quite suddenly at 63. We pray for and with all those who have gone before us. In the Old Testament book of 2 Maccabees we read how a collection was taken up and sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection in mind.

I thought if might be helpful to clarify the responsibilities of a “Temporary Parochial Administrator”. More or less it involves keeping the ship moving in the same direction as the Pastor has set course, some basic administrative / financial responsibilities, and responding (with the help of Fr. Richmond and Fr. Jim) to sacra-mental needs. So, ideally, aside from missing Fr. Rob, you won’t notice a difference.

It might also be appropriate to say that I encouraged Fr. Rob to take this four-month “immersion” experience in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico. We have a good number of parishioners from there. Maybe ten years ago Dina Beach, a Comboni lay missionary who helped establish Hispanic Ministry here in Hamilton, spent some time in “Puerto”. In addition, a Pastoral Region in the northern part of our Archdiocese has established a solid “twining” relationship with that Diocese. I’ve been there several times, as well.

The Diocese of Puerto Escondido is only sixteen years old. It includes some beautiful coast line and some remote, mountainous area just off the coast. There is a strong indigenous population which adds to its richness. Don’t worry about Fr. Rob. We’ve gotten to know a good number of “Porteños” (as we’d say in Spanish). They will be taking good care of him. He’s going to be enjoying the warmth (of both climate and people), the food, and the joy of picking up more Spanish. As we enter into winter, we will have reason to be envious.

But, as always, “How Good is the Good God!” No matter where we are.

In Christ,

Fr. Pucke

Family Promise @ Dot’s House: For those who lack housing, we should recall Christ’s well known words of Matthew's Gospel: "I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me" (Mt 25,

42ff). CONSECRATE YOUR HEARTS TO JESUS WE WANT YOU TO BE PART OF THIS!!

The parish will begin preparation for Consecration to Jesus through Mary on Tuesday, November 5th. This is important!!

To consecrate yourself means that you are entrusting yourself and families to Our Lord through Mary who is our heavenly Mother. She has a keen interest in our souls.

Join your parish in preparing for this Consecration. If you did not pick up a book last week you can pick one up at the office. They are free, but donations are grate-fully accepted to offset costs.

If you already have a great relationship with our Lord – Consecration can deepen it.

If you have no relationship with our Lord – Consecration

can cultivate one. If you are lukewarm – it will turn up the flame!

We hope that you received a copy of the retreat book last weekend. We are excited to have four discussion groups within our pastoral region to share your preparation with other people of faith! Wednesday morning 9-10:30 at the Fenmont (St. Stephen’s Hall). Led by Penny Dixon,

[email protected] Wednesday evening 6-7:30 at the Westover Activity Center. Led by Katie Crank [email protected] Both Wednesday meetings began October 30. Monday evening 7-8:30 at the Fenmont (St. Stephen’s Hall). Led by Ben & Randi Hom [email protected] Begins November 4. Saturday evening 6:30-8pm at St. Joseph school. Led by Jim Finnigan [email protected] If interested e-mail the discussion leader.

Next Weekend, November 10 Collection for the Archdiocese for

the Military Services, USA There will be a 2nd Collection

The Notre Dame Tabernacle Society thanks those who have contributed books, rosaries etc. However because of postage costs we can no longer send hard-back or large books and they cannot use our religious cards anymore. We still will send Rosaries, pamphlets, prayer cards etc., just nothing heavy to put in with the vestments we sew.

We are still looking for a large space to move our sew-ing group as the Krabbe's would like to downsize. We have been sewing at their home for 16 years. Before that we used St. Peter's Rectory basement. Please help us find a space that would be suitable for all our machines etc.

We would love to have some new volunteers. We can use sewists, packers, and general help. Please consid-er joining us. We have a lot of fun on Tuesday after-noons from 1 to 4. If you have any questions please call Andrea Benson 513-867-1497 or [email protected].

Thank you for your consideration.

ACES Our group of 26 people attended and took a train ride on the Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad on Sunday, October 27th.
