The first Protestant missionary arrives in Cambodia. 19 23 The Cambodian government forces missionaries to withdraw. The Khmer evangelical church numbers less than 1,000 members. 19 65 Eighty OMF workers from 20 nations serve in Cambodia. The church comprises more than 250,000 believers and 3,000 churches. 2016 OMF sends five members to Phnom Penh in response to the church’s urgent needs. 19 74 With the Khmer Rouge in power, more than 1.5 million Cambodians lose their lives. Ninety percent of Christians and almost all Christian leaders are martyred or flee the country. Missionaries return to Cambodia and the church grows. War begins to break out. 1970 The Khmer Rouge assumes control of the country and all missionaries are forced to leave Cambodia.
