Skipping
This term Mr Mulcahy has organised skipping as part of our commitment to childhood health. As the
culmination of our daily fitness program, students will be participating in a ‘skip-a-thon’ on the last
Thursday of Term 1. Mr Mulcahy has prepared a note and more information is given further in the
newsletter so please take the time to read it.
Election
This weekend is the state election. Voting is compulsory at State elections in Western Australia for all
enrolled electors. The Electoral Commission will be using the school’s under covered area to make it
easier for you to vote locally. The polling booth will open at 8:00am and close again at 6:00pm.
Young Leaders
As I mentioned last week, our Student Councillors are looking forward to a brilliant leadership confer-
ence in Perth on the 17th March. The conference is known as ‘Young Leaders’. Thousands of primary
school students from across the state will be attending this unique event which provides our students
the opportunity to listen to inspirational leaders and meet with other likeminded children from other
Our last assembly was written and directed by Eagle 3 and tied in very nicely with our school STARS
program. The main message was to have a positive mind set which was a great segue to our ‘Strive to
do your best’ motto. Thank you Eagle 3, you did a great job and your message was a good one. The next
class assembly will be performed by Eagle 2 on the 17th March. We look forward to this assembly and
what Mrs Barton might come up with!
Assembly
SPORTING THEME DRESS - UP DAY
Friday March 17th (Week 7)
GOLD COIN DONATION
Our school councillors have been busy lately. This year sees them taking on a more active role during our minor assemblies (those between the class assemblies).
With this in mind they have organised a SPORTING THEME DRESS - UP DAY to help keep the costs down for our Year 5/6 students to attend this year's camp. This will be on Friday March 17th (Week 7).
Our Community Song will feature on the day - THE FOOTY SONG - when students are encouraged to wear a scarf to wave at the end of the song. Students may dress up in any sporting gear (even faction shirts). All attire must be appropriate for a primary school setting.
Camp Fundraiser - Dress up day
On Wednesday 29th March, we will be holding our three way conferences. This means that the school
will be closed to allow staff and parents time to meet and discuss their children’s progress. To do this,
students will be dismissed at 12:00 midday. The conferences will start at 12:00 and finish by 4:00pm
so mark your calendars. More information will be forthcoming as we get closer to the time.
After Hours Numbers
If you observe strangers and/or strange behaviour around school premises after hours or on weekends please report these suspicions to police. Crime prevention is everyone’s business. Residents of a community are all responsible for its protection. Please call 131 444 and make a report.
Head Lice
Natural Head Lice Treatment
The humid weather that we’ve all been struggling with has been great for the Nits as they just love this
weather.
There are many different off the shelf treatments available but here is a natural treatment to try with
ingredients that you probably already have at home.
However, although difficult and frustrating to get rid of, they are not dangerous. While they often
cause irritation of the scalp, they don’t spread any disease. But, if you don’t solve the situation right
away, it may go out of control as they multiply very fast.
Ingredients:
Mouthwash
Shower cap or glad wrap White vinegar
Lice comb
Towels
Instructions:
Wash your head/ your child`s head with the mouthwash Cover the hair with a shower cap or wrap it with glad wrap Leave it to work for an hour before removing the cap/ wrap Wash the hair with white vinegar, cover with a cap/wrap for an additional hour Remove the cap and shampoo the hair with a shampoo you would normally use Comb the hair with a lice comb
How it works?
Mouthwash has a strong smell which keeps lice away while vinegar eliminates the eggs from the hair.
The parents of the student(s) with the live lice are contacted via phone and asked to collect the
student and take them home for treatment. If they cannot be contacted by phone they receive a note
informing them that they need to treat the student’s hair before returning them to school.

Jump rope for heart
Skipping is an excellent way for children to keep fit and healthy. As part of our Jump Rope for Heart program, students in Years 1-6 have been skipping during morning fitness and during their Physical Education lessons. It has been great to see the number of students participating, learning new skills and tricks and building on their fitness.
At the end of the program the students in Years 1-6 will be taking part in a Jump Off, an event to cele-brate and culminate the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart program.
This will be held on Thursday, 6th April. The Jump Off day is a great opportunity for you to witness how much fun skipping can be. Come along, pick up a rope and join in the fun
Today all families will receive a Jump Rope for Heart sponsorship form. Please return these to the front office during Week 10 (3rd – 7th April) along with any money raised. There is also an option to fundraise online and any families requiring more fundraising forms may collect them from the front office.
