• Overall, the program was a success, but we are looking for ways to improve the system for next year

Resource Recovery Plant• But Ames burns their trash…

– The city of Ames is only able to burn about 65% of their trash for fuel

– Most of the rest ends up in the landfill in Boone County

• Ames needs the trash for energy…– Ames has more than enough trash to provide energy

for the city– If this wasn’t the case, how would Ames have enough

trash during the summer for power?– The GreenHouse Group has met with the RRP and

has their full support of our program

Page 21: The GreenHouse Group

Ames Area Redemption• Recycling

– This business, located on Lincoln Way, is Ames’s only Recycling Center

– Because of the current economic situation, Ames Area Redemption has decided to charge for the recycling service they supply

– The only items accepted for free now are:• Glass• Corrugated cardboard• Oil• Redeemables (will get refunded like normal)

Page 22: The GreenHouse Group

What does that mean?• Due to the RRP and Ames Area

Redemption, the program that the DoR offers is the only FREE recycling service for most recyclables for students living on campus!

Page 23: The GreenHouse Group
