Dumpling fans in Melbourne now have a new place toget their fix.
New Shanghai has opened up in the Emporium Melbourne in a venue that almost looks too good to be in ashopping mall. Slick red and black interiors are given a Shanghainese edge with traditional wooden stools,ornate Chinese door frames and mock windows, and bamboo detailing.

The menu spans a wide variety of modern and classical Shanghai-style dishes, including soups, noodles, riceand vegetable dishes. But for most people it’s all about the dumplings. The pan-fried pork buns are a realfavourite, as are the xiao long bao – steamed mini pork buns filled with soup.
As this is now the seventh New Shanghai to open up in Australia – and there’s also one in Shanghai itself- they’re clearly doing something right.
