The Giving Tree This kit includes the book the Giving Tree by Leh Darion and lesson plan. The Giving Tree story focuses on the boyhood reminisces of Moushoom as he describes finding the "Great Giving Tree" with his mother and father. Emphasis is on Metis core values and beliefs, most importantly, the connection between the Creator and Mother Earth. Extension activities for this kit are based on The Creator's 12 gifts: tolerance, respect, love, kindness, strength, sharing, balance caring, courage, honesty, Mother Earth, and patience. The Medicine Wheel: Stories of a Hoop Dancer This kit includes the book The Medicine Wheel: Stories of a Hoop Dancer by Teddy Anderson and lesson plan created by Medicine Wheel Education. “Medicine Wheel: Stories of a Hoop Dancer” encourages children to connect with the symbol and understand inclusion of all cultures by learning along with this young boy and his friends who come to hear the story from across the world. The Sharing Circle This kit includes the book The Sharing Circle by Theresa “Corky” Larsen-Jonasson and lesson plan created by Medicine Wheel Education. In this story two red foxes have an argument which breaks apart their community, when this happens a gentle buffalo decides to take a braid of sweetgrass to a local elder and asks her to help with a sharing circle for all the animals. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a Sharing Circle and explore their thoughts and emotions through writing and drawing.
