Individual Counseling • Confidential services (within legal limits) by
licensed, trained mental health professionals
• Short-term individual counseling services (up to 12 sessions / academic year)
• The first six sessions are at no cost
• All actively enrolled GWU students are eligible for UCC counseling services
• Telephone assessment system
• Walk-in availability for crises / emergencies
Initial Assessment• Call (202) 994-5300 or walk in Monday to Friday
from 12pm to 4pm
• A counselor will be available immediately (or, at the latest, within the same day) to speak with you
• Counselor completes a 30 minute assessment to gather information about your presenting concerns, history & background, and level of urgency to be seen
• Following assessment, you will be scheduled for first in-person appointment at UCC, offered additional UCC resources, and/or or given referral information to other on- / off-campus resources
Group Counseling• No fee for groups
• Look for UCC advertisements for active groups for the upcoming semester
• Many referrals for groups come from UCC clinicians, faculty, and staff
• Examples of therapy groups held during the 2012-2013 academic year:
• Undergraduate Student Process Group, Graduate Student Process Group, Mindfulness Meditation, Emotional Management, and Disordered Eating/Body Image
Outreach & training
• Chalk-In (every spring semester)
• Screening Days – Alcohol Screening Day and Depression Screening Day
• UCC Website: Information about psychological issues, including depression, anxiety, and stress, and academic stress

Crisis Intervention & Consultation
• 24 / 7 / 365: crisis support available during AND after normal business hours
• UCC collaborates with GW Hospital when student is hospitalized
• Consultation services for students concerned about others (including other GW students and non-students)

• Large database of DC therapists & other mental health treatment providers
• Therapist referrals based on specialty, location, fee for services
• Psychiatric referrals
