The Council give continued support throughout the year
From the Secretary’s Desk
Welcome to the July edition of “The Furphy”, well we have had a
very busy month with the internal audit being completed prior to the
auditors coming in, the Annual State Congress just completed and
preparing for Annual General Meeting coming up in September and
that’s just on the office side of things.
On the club side of things, On 7th July (Friday Member’s Night) we
had the band, Heart Beats provide entertainment, overall it was a very
good night and then on Sunday 9th July after the General Meeting, the
band, SAM provided some entertainment, which was another great
afternoon. The Bar and Spitfire Grill both had good turn-overs on both
days, which is good for the club. Last Friday night, there were three
Hurry Scurry’s Drawn and the band, Midnight Velvet, played with
another good night trade with the Bar and Spitfire Grill.
On a SAD Note, I have to inform everyone that unfortunately, the
DIRTY Queenslanders defeated the NSW Blues yet again. Doesn’t
matter, we will try again next year. It’s amazing how many people come
out of the woodwork, when it comes to picking on us New South
Welshmen.

PRACTICAL TIPS FOR LOOKING AFTER YOUR SKIN
As we get older, our skin becomes more delicate and dry, and skin tears are
common. However, the simple step of moisturising twice a day can help
prevent skin tears in the first place.
Research has found that men and women who apply an appropriate twice
a day halve their chance of having a skin tear. There are many different
types of and some of these are better than others. Alpha Keri® lotion is an
example of an appropriate moisturiser
What should I do if I have a skin tear?
If you do have a skin tear, even a small one, it is a good idea to see your
doctor. Your doctor, or a nurse, can check that the wound is clean and give you
advice about how to look after it. Your doctor can talk to you about what
might have caused the skin tear. For example if you felt dizzy and fell over,
your doctor might review your medicines, to make sure one of them isn't the
cause.
Follow these tips to help prevent skin tears:
Apply moisturiser to your arms and legs twice a day - it only takes a
minute or two. Make it part of your daily routine by moisturising at the same
time each day, e.g. after showering in the morning and before bedtime at night.
Be careful not to get moisturiser on the soles of your feet. It might make them
slippery.
Use a soap substitute cleanser when bathing. Soap can make your skin dry
out. For example your doctor may prescribe Hamilton® Skin Therapy Wash.
Take care as soap substitute cleansers may make surfaces slippery.
Keep limbs protected by wearing long sleeves and pants.
Eat a healthy balanced diet and drink plenty of fluids, unless otherwise
instructed by your doctor.
Reduce the chance of falling over; wear good practical footwear, and glasses
where prescribed, and keep the house and garden clutter free and well lit.

This year Veterans’ Health Week (VHW) will be held from Saturday
21st to Sunday 29th October and the theme will be Physical Activity.
The week is an opportunity for veterans, war widows, widowers, current
and ex-Australian Defence Force members and their families to improve
and maintain the health and wellbeing of themselves and their friends.
DVA will be partnering with ex-service organisations and community
groups to develop a program of fun and interactive activities at a local
level.
The Club will be conducting two events:
A Luncheon on Tuesday 24th October at the club. There will be a representative from DVA doing a presentation meal choices and cooking for two followed by a short walk and then a light lunch.
Bowls day on 28th October at the Armadale Bowling Club to encourage members to remain active.
The activities are free and everyone is encouraged to come and join in the activities.

Are YOU one of the growing number of
RSL Members without a Valid Will?
Everyone should have a Will. Dying without a Will, no matter how
simple you believe your affairs to be, can make things harder and
far more expensive for your family and loved ones resulting in years
of stress and conflict.
A Will is without doubt the most important document you need to have.
It enables you to determine how you wish to distribute your estate, your
valuables, your funeral wishes, the guardianship of those you care for,
any donations or charitable support for others.
Without a current Will you are leaving what could be very important
decisions in the hands of a government administrator (Public Trustee) to
determine the distribution of your estate.
The RSL in conjunction with Pre-Paid Legal now offers you the “RSL
Legal Plan”, with the ability to establish a simple Will and enduring
power of attorney, review or make changes in the future, have it
safely, all at no charge as part of your RSL Legal Plan.
For further information on the many benefits of the “RSL Legal
Plan” contact PRE-PAID LEGAL on (08) 9355 5822 and protect the
ones you love now.
