Almighty God, who showest to them that be in error

the light of thy truth, to the intent that they may return

into the way of righteousness: grant unto all them that

are admitted into the fellowship of Christ's Religion;

that they may forsake those things that are contrary to

their profession, and follow all such things as are

agreeable to the same; through the same Jesus Christ

thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in

the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world with-

out end. Amen.

First Reading Acts 4:8-12

In those days: Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said, "Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being exam-ined today concerning a good deed done to a cripple, by what means this man has been healed, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man is standing before you well. This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, but which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Alleluia. V/. I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my own, and my own know me.

Alleluia.

THE HOLY GOSPEL John 10:11-18

At that time: Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hireling and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scat-ters them. He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me, as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again; this charge I have received from my Father.”

Let us offer our prayers to Almighty God. The reader continues: .,,

Father, we pray for thy holy Catholic Church; That we all may be one.

Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve thee; That thy Name may be glorified by all people.

We pray for our Holy Father, Pope Francis, for our Ordi-nary, Jeffrey, our Bishop Michael and for all bishops, priests, and deacons; That they may be faithful ministers of thy Word and Sacraments.

We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the na-tions of the world; That they may work for thy peace on earth.

Give us grace to do thy will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favour in thy sight.

Have compassion on (N., N.,...) and those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress.

Give to (N., N.,…) and all the departed eternal rest; And let light perpetual shine upon them.

We praise thee for the Blessed Virgin Mary, for Saint Pe-ter, [for Saint N.] and for all thy saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in thy heavenly kingdom.

“What are we waiting for?” By Fr. Timothy Perkins

Though it has been disallowed for use in the Catho-lic Church, the contemporary Psalter of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer and included in the Book of Divine Worship remains in my memory as the most familiar version of the Psalms. For nearly thirty years, I dutifully and daily prayed over those texts. And though the use of them was excluded because of what was considered weak Christology, it was in part through that I came to know the Jesus who led me finally home in the Catholic Church.

Praying the Psalms continually and regularly, as I learned to do with that Psalter, was the foundation of my soulful longing for salvation in Christ through his Church. And when I felt particularly lost, it was to them that I turned to seek the Lord.

“You speak in my heart and say, ‘Seek my face.’” Your face, LORD, will I seek.” Psalm 27:11

Seeking takes time, and time demands patience, and my life is in a hurry, and the shadows fall to soon, and…

“What if I had not believed that I should see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!” Psalm 27:17

I began to believe, and while I knew that “we walk by faith, not by sight,” believing only made me de-sire more intensely to see Christ’s goodness. Do you ever feel impatient that way?

“O tarry and await the LORD’s pleasure; be strong, and he shall comfort your heart; wait patiently on the LORD.” Psalm 27:18

The “goodness of the LORD.” his holy, loving face

is surely worth the wait. I hope we will all remem-

ber in the hectic pace of the dailyness of these days

to wait sometime for the Lord, to tarry in readiness

to greet the Risen Lord.
