Over the past three decades, the Swiss-born educator has crafted photographic tours to Europe and the American West that appeal to cultural travelers and photographers of all skill levels. Friday, March 13 Mid-day meeting of group at Albuquerque Airport. Scenic drive along the historic “Turquoise Trail” with visits to several former “ghost towns.” Afternoon check-in for two nights at the fabulous and historic La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, centrally located near the picturesque town plaza with its world class museums, galleries and restaurants. Welcome dinner in the charming La Plazuela Restaurant at the La Fonda – taste your first New Mexican specialties!

Saturday, March 14 Early morning walking tour of one of America’s most beautiful cities - Santa Fe, followed by free time to visit the renowned Indian Market at the historic Palace of the Governors. Optional afternoon excursion to the mountains around Los Alamos to Bandelier National Monument with its dramatic canyons and pre-Columbian cliff dwellings – spectacular for hiking and photography!

Sunday, March 15 All-day excursion on the mountainous “High Road,” a remote and historic trail that connects Santa Fe and Taos. Photographic stops at several 18th century Spanish villages, mission churches and local craft studios. Group lunch at the classic Rancho de Chimayo Restaurant, located in a century-old adobe home in the famous pilgrimage town of Chimayo. Afternoon check in for two nights at the charming and centrally located El Pueblo Lodge in Taos.

Monday, March 16 Time to enjoy the picturesque town of Taos with its interesting museums, shops and restaurants. Photographic highlights will include Ranchos de Taos, the inspiration for many famous paintings and photographs, and the dramatic Rio Grande Gorge. A special photographic session will feature the 200 year old Hacienda de los Martinez, a testimony to life in New Mexico before the arrival of the Santa Fe Trail and its Anglo influences.

Tuesday, March 17 Scenic drive through the high desert country and mountains of Northern New

Mexico and Southern Colorado to the old mining town of Durango. Mid-day stop in Chama with its authentic 19th century steam train operations. Check in for one night at the beautiful Strater Hotel, an 1887 Victorian inn.

Wednesday, March 18 All day travel through and to the heart of the Four Corners region with Monument Valley at the Utah/Arizona state line as our destination. Along the way, we will visit and photograph America’s most spectacular cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde National Park. Photograph a breathtaking sunset in the land of the Navajos, which has been used as a backdrop for countless classic Western movies. Accommodations are at the historic Goulding’s Trading Post and Lodge, which was built for John Ford and his crew during the heydays of Western film making.

Thursday, March 19 Morning visit to Monument Valley, one of the photographic highlights of the trip. This will be followed by an afternoon drive through remote parts of Northern Arizona to the small town of Chinle, Arizona. Accommodations are for two nights at the Navajo - owned and operated Thunderbird Lodge.

Friday, March 20 All day visit to the spectacular Canyon de Chelly National Monument, including a Jeep tour with a Navajo guide and an unforgettable sunset hike to the mysterious White House Ruins – once photographed by Ansel Adams – at the bottom of the canyon.

Saturday, March 21 Return drive to New Mexico across the vast and desolate land of the Navajo Nation with a stop at historic Hubbell Trading Post and the spectacular Acoma Pueblo, the famous “Sky City.” Check in for one night at the Hotel Albuquerque near Old Town. Farewell party and dinner in Albuquerque highlighted with a spectacular cable car ride to the surrounding Sandia Mountains.

Sunday, March 22 Prepare for return flight from Albuquerque to Orlando. End of guided tour at Albuquerque Airport.

Tentative Tour ItineraryNote: The itinerary is subject to change, as final arrangements are currently being made, allowing for minimal changes to tour content and hotel accommodations.

Reservations and RefundsParticipants must arrange for their own transportation to Albuquerque, with the opportunity to extend their stay at the beginning or at the end of the photographic tour. Several airlines operate convenient morning flights from Orlando, including Southwest Airlines, which offers non-stop service. To reserve your space, a deposit of $1,000 is due upon registration or no later than December 1, 2019, with the full balance due by February 1, 2020. Tour price is based on double occupancy with participants sharing a room with two beds. Single travelers should contact Peter Schreyer prior to registering to discuss rooming options and additional cost. A cancellation penalty of $500 will apply until December 1; $1,000 from December 2 through February 1. Refunds cannot be granted after February 1. Private travel insurance is recommended.
