n 2015, I volunteered to teach Financial Literacy Iunder the umbrella of FirstBank and Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) Partnership. I interacted

with the students and I knew that their IQ level was not impressive. Being a product of a public school, I knew the ball had dropped. I became restless. In December 2016, I visited Ifako Junior High, Gbagada Lagos and decided to volunteer my service (which includes teaching English Language,Mathematics as well as running mentorship programmes) to the school. I knew I couldn't do it alone so I enlisted the help of my husband. It was a welcome idea as the Vice Principal (Academics) said the children who wrote JSCE the previous session failed woefully. On our first day, the class was overflowing with new and old JSS3 students. My work schedule in FirstBank is very flexible so on my off days and the Saturdays I am available to teach and mentor the children. It has been a tedious journey but we have a goal to revamp the public schools which includes a process of unlearning and relearning for the children and I. It will take a while but it is totally worth it.

y nomination for a bold woman goes to MSafiya Stephanie Musa for her relentless efforts in reaching out to the less privileged

wherever she finds herself. Safiya is the Business Manager, Abu Dhabi Representative Office. Draw her attention to a sick person who doesn't have money for medication, she would investigate to be sure it is not a fraud and then take it upon herself to start mobilizing for assistance for the patient without knowing him/her and irrespective of the sick person's religion, ethnicity or region! Recently, she mobilised a team of medical doctors to conduct a free medical outreach in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Maiduguri, Borno state where hundreds of IDPs benefitted from her benevolent gestures. This is despite the risk involved in visiting a volatile place as an IDP camp in the epicenter of insurgency plagued Maiduguri. So, because of this and many more humanitarian gestures, I nominate her to be my bold woman.

We understand you spent six months at the FBNBank DRC. Could you please share your experience with us?I got to FBNBank DRC at the time of the Finnacle project, so there were so many people I knew that were working there at the time. As a result, I felt very much at home. The first month however was not very easy for me, as it was my first time to be away from my family. I had to call them every night.

How many weeks did it take you to start marking friends? Because of my kind of person, I made friends almost immediately. In fact, some Nigerians were wondering how I could blend so quickly and easily with the indigenes in spite of the language barrier.

So do you speak French; or how did you communicate with them? I don't. There are some who understood Basic English, coupled with the fact that we had an official interpreter. Apart from that, I didn't lord it over them; I recognized the fact that they were indigenes and took them for who they are.

I did not relate with the staff as a boss. In fact, I was one of the first foreigners (Nigerians working in FBNBank) to be taken to their resort centre. When my wife visited from Nigeria, they took us out to see several places.

EMAILETIQUETTEYour email says a lot about you. Give attention to what you send out. Your e-mail behaviour – just like your email address - can stain your reputation. Here are a few tips for developing right email etiquette.1. Only discuss public matters. Is the matter you're discussing a public

one or something that should be talked about behind closed doors? Is it something you can write on company letterhead or post on a bulletin board for all to see before clicking? Rule should be to put to email, only public matters.

2. Briefly introduce yourself unless you are very certain the recipient will remember you easily.

3. Be courteous and show respect always to your recipients. Don't be rude. Don't email when you're angry. Avoid expressing anger, reprimanding someone, disparaging other people in e-mails. Generally mind your language. Remember, e-mail correspondence lasts forever and someday, they will show up.

4. Use exclamation points sparingly. Lindsey Pollak, a career and workplace expert and e-mail etiquette consultant, says only one exclamation mark works in a business e-mail. Otherwise, you risk looking childish and unprofessional.

enough. Someone has said “if you cannot increase the length and breadth of your day, you can aim for the depth.” Here are five fundamental ways to save time and increase your personal efficiency according to Victor Lipman, a management expert.

Letting go: Are you delegating all you should? Are you holding on to things that others in your team could be doing just as effectively as you? Do you tend to bottleneck projects, with others waiting for your decisions and being delayed in the process? The fact is, all really effective executives are also highly efficient delegators.

you attend and/or set up. A phone call or short online conference can produce the result you are looking for. When possible, cut out the clutter and insist on very brief meetings that hit the point straight on.

Take time to make time: Sometimes spending extra time in one activity can lead to direct benefits in another. Exercising at work is one such activity. Where possible, go for it and watch your energy level and productivity rise.

Clear the decks: If you can, block off specific hours everyday to focus on those most important things you need to attend to. You need time to focus and work uninterrupted.

No brooding in the rear view mirror: Don't fret about the past... injustices, problems, interpersonal conflicts, projects and outcomes that didn't go your way. It's a natural tendency. But focusing unduly on something you probably can't change anyway is a waste of valuable mental energy. It just slows you down. The faster you focus on what's ahead of you - with less glancing in the psychological rear view mirror - the more efficiently you'll move forward.

Wealthy individuals who frequented Lloyd's coffee house would each take a share of the risk of insuring the ships and their cargoes, signing their names one beneath the other on the policy, thereby being known as “underwriters”. It was in Lloyd's Coffee House that a brass container for the benefit of waitrons was first inscribed with the words “To Insure Promptness”. The idea was that a patron would put an amount of money into the container before sitting down to insure promptness of service from the waitrons. The “to insure promptness” on the container is what we now call a TIP. Or so it is told.

here is a common true story way Tback in the days when Germany was divided, and a huge wall

separated East and West Berlin. One day, some people in East Berlin took a truck load of garbage and dumped it on the West Berlin side.

The people of West Berlin could have done the same thing, but they didn't. Instead they took a truck load of canned goods, bread, milk and other provisions, and neatly stacked it on the East Berlin side.

On top of this stack, they placed the sign: ''EACH GIVES WHAT HE HAS''

How very true! You can only give what you have. How you do your assignments and respond to customers even in adverse conditions is an indication of what you have. Your reaction to fellow staff even to those reporting to you is an indicator of what you have within. As a man thinks in his heart so he is. It is inexcusable to wave off irritant or jerk behavior to anger, provocation or lack of recognition. For out of the heart flow the good, the bad and the ugly. The true worth of a man is measured by his reaction in the

face of adversities. We should be on the winning West Berlin side.

Have you acquired the capacity to build or to destroy? Is your ability to make money or to steal money? Are you ingenious in creating value for everyone or to scatter what others have laboured for?

This is not the time to stand on the side of the East Berlin wall according to the story. It is time to take a stand on the winning side. In the banking industry today, all the service products possess the same characteristics but couched in different names.

The common denominator is the ''attitude'' that is placed on the “service plate”. If in every man there is a fool or a king, you have what to give to make a real difference. It only depends on your choice. Each gives what he has!

The customer is the king while you are the king maker. It's time to GET AHEAD and STAY AHEAD!
