Dr. Josephine “Jozi” De Leon received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and a master’s degree in educationalpsychology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She obtained a doctorate in curriculumand instruction from New Mexico State University. She has been a faculty member at the Universityof New Mexico and New Mexico State University. She is currently the Vice President for Equity andInclusion at the University of New Mexico.

Dr. Josephine De Leon

Dr. Nolo Martínez earned his doctorate in adult education from North Carolina State University, aswell as a master’s degree in economics from Rutgers University and a bachelor’s degree in agronomyfrom the University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Martínez serves as adjunct faculty at the University of NorthCarolina-Greensboro School of Health and Human Sciences.

Consul Flores received his B.A. in Economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico andan M.S. from the University of Paris III. He taught at UNAM and at the University of the Americas.President Felipe Calderon appointed Mr. Carlos Flores Vizcarra as the �rst Consul General of Mexicoto serve in the Carolinas in October, 2009. He previously held other diplomatic and politicalappointments.

Dr. Cristina Cabral is a Latin American and Afro Hispanic Associate Professor at North Carolina Central University. Sheis a poet native of Uruguay. She obtained her M.A. at Indiana University in Pennsylvania (1999) and her Ph.D. from theUniversity of Missouri, Columbia (2004). She has written many books of poetry and �ction.

Dr. Cristina Cabral

Dr. Louis Martin-Vega is the Dean of Engineering at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Martin-Vega received his B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, an M.S. in operationsresearch from New York University and M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in industrial and systems engineering from the Universityof Florida.

Dr. Suzanne OrtegaDr. Suzanne Ortega was appointed as the University of North Carolina Senior Vice President for Academic A�airs inJuly, 2011. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in sociology at Vanderbilt University. With research interests in mental healthepidemiology, health services, and race and ethnic relations, Dr. Ortega is the author or co-author of numerous journalarticles, book chapters, and an introductory sociology text, now in its 8th edition.

Ms. Matty Lazo-ChaddertonMs. Matty Lazo-Chaderton is the new Director for Hispanic and Latino a�airs in the Governor’s O�ce, where she handles Latino outreach, develops partnerships, and increases collaboration of NC government o�ces, private, nonpro�t agencies, and community organizations. Ms Lazo-Chaderton studied education at the National University Enrique Guzman y Valle en Lima, Peru.

Dr. Jose Hernández is the Associate Provost and Chief Diversity O�cer for the O�ce of Institutional Diversity andInclusion at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Prior to 2008, he served as Director of Diversity and Inclusionat the University of South Florida. Dr. Hernández obtained his B.A. in Psychology and an M.S. in Counseling from FloridaState University and his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Central Florida.

Dr. Maria Correa is a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. Shereceived her veterinary science degree from Uruguay and her M.S. and Ph.D. from Cornell University. Maria was partof the NSF-NCSU Advance program between 2009 and 2012 and is currently a member of the 20th cohort of theBRIDGES leadership program. Dr. Correa is interested in program development for Hispanic/Latino students, faculty,and sta�.

Mr. Zeballos is a community organizer at the Institute for Dismantling Racism in Winston Salem as well as the LatinoCommunity Coordinator and International Student Advisor at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Heholds a B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University and a master's in Organizational Management andDevelopment from the Fielding Graduate University.

Dr. Segovia serves as Director of Centro Hispano under the UNCW O�ce of Diversity and Inclusion. Segovia holds abachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, a master’s in Romance Languages/Spanish from Appalachian State University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from University of North Carolina, Wilmington.
