Dear Family and Friends, We appreciate your support of the Family Learning Center. We have worked hard to provide an evening of giving, fun and friendship. The Family Learning Center’s mission is very simple:

“To teach low-income children of all ages academic and personal skills to increase the likelihood that they will grow up to become educated,

productive caring members of society, and successful in whatever they choose to do.” The goals of this year’s Penfield Tate Humanitarian Awards Dinner and Auction are: 1) to honor the legacy of humanitarianism followed by the late Penfield Tate, former mayor of Boulder and acclaimed civil rights lawyer, and 2) to raise $130,000 to provide education, family sustainability and health and well-being programs to over 500 children and their families annually. All proceeds raised tonight will go to support these programs. We asked two things from you; 1) join us in celebrating the humanitarian work of State Senator Rollie Heath who is this year’s Penfield Tate Humanitarian Award Recipient and 2) give generously through our silent auction and paddle raiser. The lives of so many children depend upon your support and just by joining us this evening you are making a significant difference in the lives of the children we serve. Two Ways to Give Tonight!

This year’s Penfield Tate Silent Auction is designed to celebrate friendship, family and yourself. When thinking of what you will bid on, please think of what will not only bring you pleasure, but also your family and friends. Many silent auction items can easily be split into gifts for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, and for many other occasions.

Silent Auction: This year you will find the minimum bids on auction items are higher than in previous years. This year we have strategically aligned the minimum bids to the cost of providing needed services to children. For example: a minimum bid of $50.00 will provide five nutritious meals for one preschool child. $100 minimum bid will provide five nutritious meals and twenty hours of school readiness instructions for one preschool child. Each bid sheet will explain how many services you will be providing through your bid for each item. So Think, “I am helping to improve a child’s life.” All bids over the minimum bid are tax deductible.

Paddle Raiser: The Paddle Raiser is done after dinner and is part of the evening’s program. This provides everyone an opportunity to make a 100% tax deductible donation to The Family Learning Center. This year you can submit a pledge through mail by sending a check to FLC (3164 34th Street, Boulder 80301), on our website (www.flcboulder.org) and or by calling Mary at 303-442-8979 ext, 102. Your pledge will be included in the evening’s total. Pledges range from $25,000.00 to $50.00, and or any other amount that fits into your budget. There is no amount that is too big or too small!!

FLC’s middle school team, “Circle of Success” was made up of students; Britney Jones, Daniel Fernandez, Luis Pineda, PQ Compean, Sage Simpson, Tyler Victory and Ruth Efe. Each year, each teams vie’s for the title of champion ( winning the most competitions). This summer “Circle of “Success” won its third championship. Their art piece, The Rising Sun, took the first place in our summer art show.

401 THE GROOVE

FLC’s middle school team, Alpha Minions, included: Eric Esparza, Bianca Rojas, Micheal Johnson, Josmar Olguin, and Alejandra Caballero. These students, as well as, all of the middle school teams worked with two professional artists, Elsie and Suzan who taught them how to work with a variety of mediums and styles of art. From these lessons, each team created their own masterpiece and donated them for this year’s Pen Tate Auction. The Groove gives the viewer a great sense of joy.

402 THE WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL

FLC middle school team, Dethrone, included Adolfo Monreal, Wendy Ibarra, Melissa Rojas, Hose De Santiago, Aaron Gonzales, Eduardo Garcia, and Fabian Valencia. In this masterpiece team Dethrone inspires us to see the world as the beautiful place it is. These students wanted to share their love for animals and the environment. It is a perfect piece for any home, office or as a gift for that special person in your life.
